Associate Director, Direct Marketing

The University of Virginia seeks an Associate Director, Direct Marketing to project manage and execute multi-channel fundraising strategies for the University of Virginia and Advancement community schools and programs. The Associate Director, Direct Marketing will liaise with partners and will review and analyze the results of their appeals, using the findings to help improve strategies moving forward to increase year-over-year revenue and donors. Direct Marketing Associate Directors have additional responsibilities, including proofing and approving projects for team members.

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, Direct Marketing, the ideal candidate will have a proven track record with project management, the ability to work autonomously, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships with school and unit partners, which includes developing a plan to identify, cultivate, and solicit constituents to increase pipeline development.
  • Project manage some central, university-wide solicitations.
  • Make strategic recommendations to partners (for example, regarding audience segmentation) to ensure that the partner’s needs are met and that resources are used effectively and efficiently.
  • Execute, from start to finish, print, email, web, text, and social campaigns using platforms such as SalesForce Marketing Cloud, ThankView, Hustle, and GiveCampus.  
  • Coordinate project production with Direct Marketing team members, including writers and graphic designers, to ensure accurate, on-time delivery of appeals.
  • Review, analyze, and share quarterly and FYE results with partners.  
  • Assist with proofing and approvals of projects generated within the Direct Marketing team.
  • Develop annual plans for partners using data-driven decision-making and annual giving best practices.
  • Participate in the Annual Giving Community of Practice, Office of Engagement, and University Advancement meetings, events, and programs as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Two years of experience in annual giving, communications, marketing, or a related field 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to manage projects independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with marketing platforms and CRM systems (with a preference for Salesforce).

Depending on the type of position and work performed, or as deemed by manager, some positions may be required to work intermittently in a shared office space located in Charlottesville, Virginia. This position may work from anywhere, with the expectation of being in Charlottesville a minimum of four times a year at UVA’s expense.

This position will remain open until filled. This is an exempt level, benefited position. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance. This position will not sponsor for work visas.
