The Assistant Director, Annual Giving for the University of Chicago Booth School of Business understands the principles of fundraising and the mission of the Office of Advancement. This position will support direct response marketing tactics through email, mail, texting, social media, phone, and other channels to raise funds from Chicago Booth alumni and other prospective donors.


  • Coordinate fundraising strategies leading to an annual increase in revenue and key metrics for the Annual Fund at the Booth School of Business. Implement direct marketing solicitation and communication strategies using email, mail, texting, social media, phone, and other channels.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation. Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring feasibility.
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the timely execution of projects.
  • Partner with Booth Marketing, Donor Relations, Advancement Communications, Major Gift officers and third party vendors to plan, create, schedule, execute, and evaluate productive, high-quality, cost-effective solicitation projects for the business school.
  • Draft compelling solicitations in various channels using direct response marketing best practices to motivate alumni and donors to support the Annual Fund.
  • Stay up to date on direct response marketing and email marketing best practices. Use research on giving patterns to improve solicitation techniques and improve future solicitation campaigns.
  • Conduct market research to create messaging and communications that are proven to resonate with the Booth alumni community.
  • Interact knowledgeably with donors via multiple channels and provide high-quality customer service.
  • Responsible for processing purchase orders, invoices, and payments for external vendors.
  • Seek opportunities for professional development that will enhance job performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Executing all planned omni-channel fundraising campaigns.
  • Increasing funds raised through mass communications channels.
  • Meeting the goals of the Annual Fund team.


  • This position reports to the Senior Associate Director, Annual Giving and takes direction from the Senior Director, Annual and Leadership Giving.


Bachelor’s degree or higher required.


  • A minimum of two years of professional work experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations or similar work experience required.
  • Experience in managing complex communication projects preferred.


  • Strong verbal and writing skills, high attention to detail and follow-up, and excellent organizational skills required.
  • Strong commitment to customer service required.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and tact required.
  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the internal workings of the University as well as the technology tools available, including Phoenix (the University’s Constituent Relationship Management System), a Microsoft Windows computer environment, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access required.
  • Strong leadership qualities, including the ability both to delegate and to execute, thereby leading by word and by example required; ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team setting required.
  • An exceptional work ethic and track record of personal initiative required; outstanding interpersonal and communications skills characterized by the ability to listen, to speak, and to write well required.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to new programs in an emerging and changing environment required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to campus and/or non-campus locations for University business required.
  • Understanding of the University of Chicago, its history, organization and modus operandi preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to work some evenings and weekends required.
