Director of Annual Giving

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Development, the Director of Annual Giving will be responsible for the strategic development and execution of a dynamic annual giving fundraising program that is focused on increasing Temple’s annual giving donor base and building a pipeline for leadership annual giving and major giving donors at the University.

The Director will strategically utilize data to inform and create a robust donor-centric fundraising plan that will build and diversify donors’ philanthropic support of the university. Employing multi-channel direct marketing vehicles, including direct mail and various digital tools, the Director will drive the continued growth and evolution of the direct response marketing program through implementing systems and processes to build and diversify individual giving to achieve or exceed departmental goals.

The Director will also develop and build on relationships with school, college, unit, and other campus partners’ leadership and staff to create philanthropic opportunities that leverage central annual giving resources, as well as complement and enhance existing unit-based efforts.  In working with these groups, the Director will be responsible for providing thought leadership and envisioning new program and philanthropic opportunities to increase philanthropic engagement – both in terms of retention and strategic acquisition.

The Director will provide strategic leadership and management of Annual Giving staff.

Required Education & Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of directly related experience in development and/or direct response fundraising/annual giving including demonstrated experience in managing and implementing large, complex direct mail, digital, and d other giving programs. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of campaign design, execution and measurement.
  • Effective database management and the proven ability to extract and analyze data to inform marketing and budgetary decisions
  • Exceptional ability to manage internal and external relationships
  • Strong time management, organizational and planning skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills with the ability to be resourceful, proactive, and seek assistance as needed.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work independently.

This position requires a background check.

This position is assigned a remote work arrangement with rare expectation to report on campus. The duration of this remote work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.

In accordance with the City of Philadelphia’s mandate, all Temple University students, faculty, staff and contractors must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by November 15, 2021, unless they have a medical or religious exemption approved by the University.  An individual is considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks or more following the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or 2 weeks or more following a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
