The Assistant Director of Alumni Clubs in the Office of Alumni Engagement will lead initiatives for volunteer identification, cultivation, and stewardship in assigned territories.

This position will work closely with the Assistant Director of Alumni Clubs and regional team members to facilitate continuous alumni volunteer engagement.

The Assistant Director for Alumni Clubs will enhance strategies for volunteer identification and activation in specific regions. This includes driving new programming, while working closely with key regions/markets to assist with additional outreach engagement efforts and volunteer identification.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in higher education development and/or alumni engagement.
  • Valid driver’s license required for travel.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office products, and University advancement systems.
  • Digital marketing experience preferred.
  • Ability to strategize, prioritize and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate with colleagues within AEA and the university.
  • Proven ability to develop and enhance relationships across diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal communications, collaboration, and leadership.
  • Keen understanding of technological applications for alumni relations, data management and communications

Responsibilities

  • Develop the current and long-term capability of regional alumni clubs by assessing and refining the suite of engagement opportunities to foster Syracuse University affinity and lifelong commitment among Syracuse University alumni. Provide clubs with University best practices as it relates to the development and implementation of effective processes, procedures and governance for managing clubs, their leaders and volunteers, and developing engagement programming for their constituencies. Examples of programming include professional development, community service, student/parent centric and exclusive ‘behind the scenes’ events. Effectively communicate regional club vision, mission, strategy and University-related information to volunteers in both group and individual settings
  • Recruit, cultivate and steward alumni volunteers in strategic locations throughout the country. Take an active role in volunteer leadership development, leadership transition/succession planning, and managing volunteer roles and responsibilities. Actively develop and deliver best practice volunteer training. Utilize CITRUS database to record all constituent participation and interaction.
  • Work collaboratively within the Office of Alumni Engagement to develop, implement and maintain ongoing communication mechanisms to keep volunteers updated on campus and other alumni initiatives. Provide best practices and strategies for regional alumni clubs to communicate to the alumni in the regions. Work closely with the communications team to determine an effective way to reach the appropriate target alumni audience. This includes building event registration pages, submitting retrieval requests, providing web updates, creating email and social media content and post event follow up.
  • Work collaboratively within the Office of Alumni Engagement to develop and implement alumni events that will engage alumni and help strengthen ties with the University. Work to develop a plan for strategic use of resources. Coordinate logistics for on and off campus events, including pre-event registration, email and social media communications and post event follow up.
