Reporting to The Director of Leadership Giving & Engagement, the Associate Director is responsible for the identification and personal solicitations of upper level annual giving ($1,000+), with special attention to building Seton Hall University’s Bayley Society. The Associate Director implements and executes strategies for identifying, engaging and successfully soliciting individuals for gifts to support the University as we head into a comprehensive campaign. The individual will manage a large portfolio of prospects through an active schedule of solicitation, engagement and stewardship. Funds will be raised primarily through face-to-face and virtual meetings, which are supplemented with phone calls, emails, as well as both written and verbal solicitations. A high-volume of daily touchpoints will help identify and engage leadership level donors. The Associate Director is charged with acquiring new donors for the university as well as encouraging current annual donors to increase their giving over time while assessing future major gift capacity.

The Associate Director will be involved in all aspects of Alumni Engagement, including philanthropy, communication, digital, experiential, leadership giving and volunteer engagement by working collaboratively in a fully integrated engagement team. The Associate Director will act as a liaison with the Advancement team by identifying potential Bayley members and feeding the pipeline of donors to Development in preparation for a future campaign.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the identification and personal solicitations of upper level annual giving ($1,000+), with special attention to building Seton Hall University’s Bayley Society, by managing a portfolio. Funds will be raised primarily through face-to-face and virtual meetings, which are supplemented with phone calls, emails, as well as both written and verbal solicitations. Primary audiences for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship will be alumni of the University. Acquire new donors for the university as well as encourage current annual donors to increase their giving over time while assessing future major gift capacity. Build a stronger foundation for philanthropy by helping to create a more robust pipeline of gifts, which can lead to future major gift support. Coordinate the maintenance of statistical reports and weekly gift reports. Liaises with the Advancement team to monitor status of the qualification, engagement and stewardship of prospects to build a pipeline toward major gifts.
  • Work collaboratively with University Advancement and campus partners, and as an integrated member of the Alumni Engagement & Philanthropy team. Participate in all aspects of alumni engagement, including philanthropy, communication, digital, experiential, leadership giving and volunteerism. Build mutually beneficial relationships that inspire loyalty and financial support, strengthen the institution’s reputation and involve alumni in meaningful activities to advance the institution’s mission. Serve as an active liaison to the Alumni Board.

Required Qualifications

  • BA and 1+ years of experience in fundraising, cold-calling marketing/sales, campaigning and or relevant transferrable skills. Requires strong written skills, an ability to write a compelling message. Very refined communication skills, comfortable guiding a conversation along with individuals who are unknown; must have the ability to be persuasive.
  • Valid drivers license and access to reliable transportation for travel related to work accountabilities.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database a plus
