Marietta College is seeking a highly motivated Philanthropy Officer to join our dynamic and mission-driven advancement team with an emphasis on supporting today’s Pioneers.

Managing a portfolio of 100-130 prospects, this team member will focus on the identification, cultivation, solicitation, close, and stewardship of major gift donors ($25,000+) through authentic and meaningful engagement and relationship-building. Utilizing local, regional, and national travel, as well as various technology, the Philanthropy Officer will identify unique and personalized ways to connect donor passions with the College’s impactful work of providing students with a strong foundation for a lifetime of leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, the Philanthropy Officer will play a vital role on the advancement team and will enjoy a meaningful opportunity to shape students’ lives and impact the future of higher education. At Marietta College, Pioneers emerge ready to change the world!

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Willing to travel throughout the region and across the country to build relationships and solicit and close major gifts ($25,000+), completing 15 to 18 face-to-face/substantive visits per month.
  • Assist in identifying and qualifying new prospects and strategically manage a portfolio of 100-130 individual major gift prospects to solicit their best possible gifts.
  • Connect with prospects by phone, mail, video conferencing, and other electronic communications who may not be engaged or have not had personal contact from the College for a length of time.
  • Effectively articulate Marietta College’s needs, values, and ambitions through informal and formal communications and inspire donor support for various initiatives.
  • Actively engage with the campus community to deepen understanding of campus culture and next phase opportunities.
  • Collaborate with advancement colleagues to engage and steward alumni and donors, assist in organizing and implementing special projects, and participate in affinity group. development and/or engagement events.
  • Write donor correspondence, contact reports, and proposals, and provide updates and briefings on individual donors and program status.

Required Skills:

  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of major donors in order to develop relationships between them and the College.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and with other campus partners, while handling multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • A proven ability to self-motivate and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience articulating a case for support to inspire and help align others with the vision, mission, and strategic plans of the College.
  • Ability to achieve ambitious goals with a track record of measurable results.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of one to three years of successful, face-to-face relationship-building experience.
  • Preferred, but not required, experience in higher education, direct sales, or fundraising.
  • Experience with and ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable to drive according to the College’s liability insurance provider.
