The Highlights:

The Assistant Vice President for Development, Campaign Strategy and Initiatives works in close coordination with the Senior Vice President for Advancement, the senior management team, academic leaders, and campus partners to plan and execute high-level fundraising and operational goals. The AVP is a member of the senior management team in the Division of Advancement and External Relations and reports directly to the Senior Vice President for Advancement, serving as a key partner in helping achieve the strategic goals and vision for philanthropy at DePaul University.

The AVP will also manage a portfolio of major and leadership gift prospects and will actively solicit gifts for fundraising priorities. In addition, the AVP is responsible for providing leadership to the following areas: Campaign Strategy, Interdisciplinary Fundraising, Strategic Initiatives, Major Gifts and Planned Giving. The AVP is a key member of the DePaul University community and will work with the SVP, institutional leaders, and faculty to ensure a coordinated, consistent development effort, while developing and maintaining a high profile for DePaul within its various constituencies.

What You’ll Do:

  • Campaign Planning and Strategy. Develops and implements fundraising strategies in support of priorities established by the President, Provost, and University leadership working closely with the SVP of Advancement, Advancement management team colleagues, and all campus development partners. Serves as the lead and central point of contact for fundraising priorities associated with student support. Manages an overall campaign operations plan and timeline, and develop tools to monitor overall campaign progress. Manages and coordinate campaign volunteer structure and engagement efforts and oversees efforts to maximize the impact of campaign volunteers. Provides support for campaign leadership as appropriate. Plans campaign board meetings and schedules other working committees as needed to advance the campaign and its goals. Ensures the coordination of all university-wide campaign initiatives.
  • Team Leadership, Supervisory and Administrative Functions. Provides leadership and manages three Executive Directors and their teams to grow major gift and principal gift fundraising for the campaign. Provides strategic direction to the Planned Giving program and works closely with the Executive Director to grow planned giving fundraising for the campaign and beyond. Manages the Associate Director of the Campaign and provide the necessary work assignments, guidance, and coaching necessary to advance the campaign and its goals. Serves as a member of the Division of Advancement and External Relations senior management team. Serves as a liaison from the division for campus units and other campus programs as assigned by the Senior Vice President. Ensure administrative task related to functions are handled efficiently and effectively.
  • Major and Leadership Gift Fundraising. Manages an active portfolio of 25 or more major and leadership giving prospects and develop/execute long-range and short-range strategies and plans to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects capable of making gifts of $1M to $5M.
  • Supervise senior staff in development and campaign operations (five direct reports)
  • Responsible for planning and oversight of the Planned Giving, Campaign and Development budgets

What You’ll Need:

  • Baccalaureate degree required; Advance degree preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years progressive development experience including extensive involvement in campaign leadership, planning and execution for academic institutions
  • Proven experience and success in closing six-and seven-figure gifts
  • Experience managing a staff of professionals providing leadership, setting and evaluating individual goals, developing and sustaining appropriate training, mentoring, and assigning and monitoring coverage of primary areas of focus
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and advance strategic plans and programs that support DePaul University’s mission and contribute to the goals and objectives of the fundraising programs.
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with internal and external constituency groups and to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment
  • Significant knowledge of working with volunteers and volunteer groups. Experience building and communicating campaign strategies. Discretion and an ability to interact with high-level donors
  • Excellent communications skills, coupled with strong writing and presentation skills, as well as the ability to present before a grouup
  • Sound organizational ability, a high degree of energy creativity and initiative; the ability to project the unique aims and values of DePaul University and its donors and alumni
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and meet challenging and changing deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans, implement programs, manage and implement change
  • Ability to maintain highly confidential information on a variety of sensitive subjects
  • Must be able work varied hours, including nights and weekends; occasional overnight and/or out of state travel for events and conferences
