Through the Phone Center, the annual giving department reaches more alumni, parents, friends and family of Iowa State than any other unit at the foundation. This means, in your leading role, you will shape how nearly 100,000 people view and interact with the university. You can incite change. Through active collaboration with others on the annual giving team, you will play a major role in preparing Iowa State for years of success.
In This Role, You Will…
- Recruit, interview and hire a fundraising team of 120 student callers and student supervisors in an effort to raise over $2 million annually.
- Prepare new callers to effectively conduct phone calls to raise gifts for the benefit of ISU by using a highly-educational and interactive training program.
- Improve the performance of existing callers by creating and conducting an ongoing caller training program that will enhance communication abilities.
- Evaluate callers and student supervisors, and coach on performance issues. Manage the disciplinary action process.
- Oversee calling sessions by assigning prospects to callers, setting goals and motivating phonecenter staff and supervisors. Monitor nightly statistics and performance.
- Use proven training techniques, incentives and effective management abilities to enhance retention rates of student callers and supervisors.
- Lead efforts to motivate, inspire and engage phonecenter staff by making it an enjoyable and rewarding place to work.
- Work 40 hours per week with a schedule that includes hours worked between 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm Monday through Friday and rotational calling sessions on Saturday and Sunday.
To Be Successful, You Will Need…
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or equivalent years of related experience.
- Minimum of one year fundraising experience.
- Strong leadership skills. Experience managing students is preferred.
- Knowledge of and a high degree of comfort working with word processing, databases and spreadsheets. Experience working with automated telemarketing systems is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
- Strong team orientation, a dedicated work ethic and a positive and professional attitude.
