Assistant Director of Annual Giving
Primary Purpose:
Provides overall general support of all activities involved with all programs related to the Office of Annual Giving. This position reports to the Director of Annual Giving.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manage, develop and implement a variety of fundraising projects in cooperation with the Dean and Department Chairs for the College of Graduate Nursing.
- Work with each college/department and University Advancement to assure they receive a response to inquiries and to provide necessary information on scholarships for the annual Honors Day and Graduation Awards program in a timely manner.
- Write and edit solicitation letters to scholarship donors for annual gifts in an effort to retain scholarships.
- In support of the annual phonathon, assist with distribution of pledge reminders, acknowledgements and reports on a timely basis.
- Implement and manage Alumni Networking Mixers in key regions such as, Los Angeles, Orange County, Northern California and potentially an International event.
- Work independently and as part of the Development team on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects, which may include, planning and coordinating presentations, disseminating information, and coordinating mailings.
- Manage fundraising events such as the Towne & Gown Classic golf tournament event.
- Create and implement departmental fundraising efforts such as, dinners, luncheons, breakfasts, seminars, field trips, and other donor and prospect events.
- Work collaboratively with development, administrative, program staff and volunteers on event implementation.
- Attend and participate in both on- and off- campus events for alumni, donors and prospects.
- Ability to interface well with all programs/departments within WesternU and to represent University Advancement in a professional manner.
- Develops and monitors an annual written work plan with measurable outcomes and timelines.
- Participates in professional development activities.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
- Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a wide range of professionals.
- Ability to conceptualize as well as attend to detail.
- Knowledge of higher education and health sciences education highly desired.
- Ability to work successfully under time pressure and to handle competing priorities with minimal supervision.
- Computing skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet browsers.
- Ability to interact effectively with administrators, faculty and staff.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Qualifications Standard:
- EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
- EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 3-4 years in fundraising, preferably in a higher education environment and/or health industry environment. Experience in project/program planning processes highly desired.
