Position Overview:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Corporate Partnerships, the Corporate Partnerships Manager (CPM) independently performs a variety of activities intended to promote and enhance Keck Graduate Institute’s relationships with life science companies.    As an integral member of the Corporate Partnerships team, the CPM is responsible for planning, implementing and managing the sponsorship efforts of specific programs by forming partnerships for the Institute through new business development.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for cultivating strong relationships with existing and potential industry partners to further the Institute’s goals in Team Masters Projects (TMP), corporate education, and corporate sponsored research.
  • Initiate and manage internal and external business development initiatives; relationships with industry representatives; and potential technology licensees.
  • Supports corporate-facing activities and provide metrics.
  • Build awareness for KGI across the life science industry and capture metrics.
  • Secure, promote, manage, and measure at minimum eight (8) ISBSS speakers per semester.
  • Identify and qualify at minimum twenty (20) Team Masters Project (TMP) leads per semester.
  • Assist with planning, recruiting, promoting, managing, and measuring effectiveness of events, such as Advisory Council meetings.
  • Assist with Corporate Education programming, logistics, and metrics.
  • Organize KGI leadership, faculty, and senior staff to explore opportunities for future or expanded collaboration.
  • Establishes and maintains strategic contacts in industry, including pharmaceutical, biotech, health care IT, physical science, and medical device companies.
  • Manages industry contact database for push and pull marketing efforts and general communications.
  • Trains faculty to present their inventions to potential investors.  Provide state-of-the- art education and insight into current technology landscape for faculty in order to optimize successful commercialization of complex Institute inventions.
  • Implements an educational program for faculty and staff about industry specific life sciences.
  • Plans informational events about financing program opportunities for KGI faculty and inventors.
  • Works closely with the KGI Marketing team and takes a leadership role in developing events such as Focus Fridays.
  • Collaborates to host events for venture capital investors and others from the investment industry with select faculty technologies in their areas of interest.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field is required and a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in business development, project management, and sales; experience in Life Sciences is a plus.  Must be comfortable with tactics (e.g., coordinating project details) and strategy (e.g., identifying new corporate prospects).

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of five years professional experience in a business development position, preferably in a life science company.
  • Must be experienced in relationship management, either from a fundraising, business development, sales, or marketing background.
  • Entrepreneurial energy, self-direction, and an eagerness to generate ideas are essential.
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to balance competing priorities, and complex situations.
  • Must have an excellent professional rapport, exceptional oral and written communication skills and a strong customer service orientation.
  • Must be deadline-driven, highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and follow-through on issues.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively as a member of the Corporate Partnerships team, and to participate enthusiastically in the life of the Institute.

Physical Requirements:

This is generally a sedentary role; it requires the ability to sit for prolonged periods of time and the manual dexterity to operate a computer for prolonged periods of time.  Must be able to lift 25 lbs., and move tables (set up events) as necessary, ability to drive locally and travel by airplane nationally.  Occasionally, will be required to stand for prolonged periods of time at activities/events on and off-campus.  Must be able to handle flexible hours, including some evening and weekend work to meet the needs of the department.
