The University of Illinois at Chicago ( UIC )- Office of the Vice Chancellor for Advancement is seeking to fill the position of Development Officer (Assistant Director of Participation) . Responsibilities include planning, directing and implementing programs and activities to cultivate, solicit and steward annual gifts from individual donors and prospects to support the University of Illinois at Chicago. The Development Officer (Assistant Director of Participation) will serve as an Office of the Vice Chancellor for Advancement liaison to college and unit annual giving staff to create and implement specialized direct mail, telemarketing, on-line, mobile and social media fundraising strategies.

  • Plan, execute and monitor progress of annual giving projects involving the campus, colleges and units.
  • Serve as an Office of the Vice Chancellor for Advancement annual giving service liaison to colleges and units.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase donor numbers and gift revenue.
  • Advise colleges and units on direct response strategies and assist with the design, production and printing of annual giving program materials.
  • Create content for direct mail, telemarketing and email solicitations.
  • Develop annual giving strategies, including data tables to identify recipients of annual giving solicitations and create customized solicitation materials.
  • Prepare, present and distribute complex and detailed annual giving program performance reports.
  • Create and maintain a master calendar containing a schedule of all campus, college and unit related annual giving projects.
  • Develop and maintain annual giving related content for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Advancement web site.
  • Serve on task forces to ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • One or an acceptable combination of:
    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher, with a major in public  relations, communications or closely related field. AND one year of professional fundraising work experience with responsibility for developing and implementing fundraising campaigns.
      OR
    • Four years of professional fundraising work experience with responsibility for developing and implementing fundraising campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience with professional fundraising or marketing work experience with responsibility for developing, implementing and managing direct mail telemarketing and/or on line solicitation programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with the public, alumni, university staff and multiple audiences.
  • Knowledge of direct marketing standards, procedures and protocols.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point.
  • Experience in using business intelligence software, such as Cognos preferred.
  • Blackboard database experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
