Director, Annual Giving Programs
Summary:
The Director of Annual Giving Campaigns and Operations at The Ohio State University Alumni Association, Inc. (OSUAA) is responsible for the execution of multi-channel campaigns and the management of annual giving operations including the Ohio State Call Center, data analytics and solicitation tracking. He/she is also responsible for the maintenance and coordination of the Office of Annual Giving communication calendar.
With guidance from the Senior Director, the Director will develop and manage 5-7 large campaigns that focus on donor renewal, reacquisition and acquisition. This position will coordinate with annual giving team members to develop plans that incorporate direct mail, call center, digital and stewardship tactics into these campaigns. He/she will work closely with University Marketing and Advancement Services in the execution and will ensure that the message is consistent and relevant to the audience. In addition to these campaigns, he/she assists The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and other University colleges/units with individual solicitations including producing data and content, tracking results and revenue, reporting overall solicitation effectiveness and making needed adjustments.
He/She directly manages two staff members, the Associate Director of Special Campaigns which focuses on Campus Campaign (faculty and Staff), Parents and Student Philanthropy and the team’s Data Analyst which is responsible for data requests and developing reports to analyze giving trends and overall effectiveness of appeals. The Director will serve as the subject matter expert and direct manager for the Ohio State Call Center. They will also ensure that alumni and constituents are being properly solicited university-wide based on current fiscal year strategy, provide feedback to maximize processes, and consult with University partners on current practices for developing targeted solicitation lists and accurate coding of alumni and constituent records.
The Director operates with a high degree of independence, decision making capabilities, judgment, consistency, discretion and financial management in accomplishing objectives. He/she facilitates developmental opportunities for staff members through coaching, education and exhibiting leadership behaviors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
40% Campaigns –will work with Senior Director to develop strategies and concepts for annual giving campaigns. He/she will then directly manage these campaigns (5-7 annually) focusing on timely execution, accuracy, efficiency and audience relevance. These campaigns will focus on a mix of donor renewal, reacquisition and acquisition based on campaign strategy. This position will work closely with annual giving team to ensure the appropriate tactics and tools are being utilized. These tools include direct mail, call center, digital, stewardship and events when appropriate. He/she will work closely with University Marketing and Advancement Services in the execution and will ensure that the message is consistent and relevant to the audience. He/she will also work with Alumni Association partners to maximize engagement opportunities that are relevant to the campaigns.
In addition to these campaigns, he/she assists The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and other University colleges/units with individual solicitations including producing data and content, tracking results and revenue, reporting overall solicitation effectiveness and making needed adjustments and will oversee the management of specialty constituency groups including faculty/staff, parents and students.
25% Operations –will serve as the subject matter expert and direct manager for the Ohio State Call Center including overseeing call center strategy and monitoring the effectiveness of its vendor management. Through the use of segmentation and appeal tracking, they will also ensure that alumni and constituents are being properly solicited university-wide based on current fiscal year strategy, provide feedback to maximize processes, and consults with University partners on current practices for developing targeted solicitation lists and accurate coding of alumni and constituent records. They will help with the development and maintenance of the Office of Annual Giving’s communication calendar to ensure that appeals are well coordinated, efficient and creating a narrative donor experience.
20% Data Analysis – oversees the creation and analysis of fundraising reports and data requests as well as oversees giving trends and effectiveness of annual giving appeals. Makes recommendations and adjustments to annual giving strategies as needed; creates, edits and monitors revenue tracking codes in The Advancement System (TAS) and assists the Senior Director to ensure all annual solicitations are tracked in TAS.
10% Supervisory – fosters an efficient and effective working environment by monitoring and coordinating the work of staff, developing work procedures, and ensuring that the resources needed to accomplish work are provided; making quality decisions and communicating these decisions/changes in a timely and appropriate manner; providing performance feedback; consistently adhering to established policies and procedures; and responding constructively to conflict and the demands of work.
5% Miscellaneous – contributes to Advancement by fostering and exhibiting teamwork; participates on internal committees/workgroups as appropriate; performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience; 5 years of related work experience in the areas of annual giving and/or direct fundraising to include working directly for or in partnership with a sales and/or fundraising-focused call center; ability to analyze data to find trends and identify indicators that drive results; proven experience with proactively initiating the development of annual giving/fundraising program strategy and the marketing of these programs; quality decision making skills; MS Office and alumni/donor database or Customer Relations Management system acumen; proven supervisory skills and leadership qualities; flexibility and adaptability to shifting priorities and demands including occasional evening and weekend work.
Desired: one year of experience directly managing a sales and/or fundraising-focused call center; experience in a university setting and/or non-profit enterprise; ability to collaborate with colleagues from a variety of disciplines; knowledge of Ohio State and its policies and procedures.
