Senior Development Writer/Editor

Summary of Duties:

Under the general supervision of the WSU Foundation’s Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications, this position proactively develops, researchers, writes and edits original story content for use in multiple communications vehicles, including but not limited to print periodicals, online publications, special publications, brochures and other collateral materials and social media to promote and/or inform target audiences about the WSU Foundation and WSU’s development programs. 

Work may include writing and editing content for feature stories, fundraising appeals/solicitations, websites, printed collateral, as well as event, radio, or video scripts. Work is varied and requires a sound understanding of subject and target audience concepts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications or related field and two (2) years of professional level writing/editing experience which has included word processing computer applications and a demonstrated knowledge of graphic arts principles. A Master’s degree in a relevant field may be substituted for up to (1) one year of the required experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated superior English writing and grammatical skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with a variety of individuals and personalities in a positive manner while proactively helping teams achieve their goals.
  • Ability and willingness to share ideas, to be open to the ideas of others, work toward organizational goals and interests.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, take initiative, and work independently to carry out difficult assignments.
  • Knowledge of office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of full-time writing experience, which has included word processing computer applications and a demonstrated knowledge of graphic arts principles.
  • Demonstrated experience writing for a range of mediums, including but not limited to Web sites, social media, print materials, radio and video.
  • General understanding of development principles.
  • General understanding of social media for marketing awareness and engagement.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Good conceptualization abilities.
  • Familiarity with Chicago and AP writing styles.
