Summary of Duties:

The Development Content Strategist, in partnership with the Director of Development, oversees content management of the Annual Giving program and associated activities.

Responsibilities include writing and/or editing WSU Foundation annual giving appeals, including, Presidential priority fundraising appeals and segmentation strategies for all University-wide fundraising appeals, membership events, acquisition strategies and events, stewardship and recognition. Initiates and monitors strategies to increase the donor base and the amount of funds raised on an annual basis for University-wide and cross-constituency appeals; designs ongoing reporting and acknowledgement systems to measure progress toward fundraising goals and to ensure timely and accurate stewardship.

The incumbent ensures all segmentation strategies complement each other; organizes, implements and evaluates major and special donor giving strategies in coordination with Director of Development and Strategic Marketing Analyst Initiates fundraising, cultivation and stewardship strategies for the President’s Associates Program that will result in increased giving and sustainable donor relationships with the organization.

Other duties include participates in and/or coordinates the development and implementation of fundraising activities to meet the Annual Giving unit’s goals. Represents the WSU Foundation and the University to internal and external constituents. Fosters positive working relationships necessary to meet unit and fiscal year goals. Engages in fundraising activities to include cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors.

Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications or related field and two (2) years of professional level writing/editing experience which has included word processing computer applications and a demonstrated knowledge of graphic arts principles. A Master’s degree in a relevant field may be substituted for up to (1) one year of the required experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience writing and editing appeals for a successful annual fund program in a nonprofit organization, health-care, or educational institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience writing and editing other forms of marketing communications, including copy for newsletters, brochures, websites, and ads.
  • Experience working with photographers, designers, printers, and web publishers.
  • Fundraising experience and/or demonstrated success in fundraising or relevant sales, marketing, or public relations positions.
  • Teamwork experience with other writers, editors, proofreaders, and fundraisers.
  • Demonstrated experience with donor-prospect research and ‘moves management’ systems.
