Associate Director of Digital Fundraising
General Description Purpose
Through strategic and creative initiatives, the Associate Director will help to create a pipeline of annual donors and volunteers to provide a steady flow of prospects, donors, and volunteers to higher levels of giving and engagement. This position will have a strong focus on disruptive technologies including online giving, crowdfunding, e-solicitations, text-to-give, and creative stewardship. The Associate Director will manage special projects through program development, volunteer management, and the use of new technologies.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Lead or partner with colleagues who are leading crowdfunding initiatives. Create solicitation strategies, marketing plans, training materials and time lines. This includes school/college/unit crowdfunding, such as the 100% UConn Law Challenge, as well as Ignite, the Huskies Forever Weekend 5K, Giving Tuesday, the Athletics Drive to 5,000 campaign, Giving Days, and faculty and staff crowdfunding.
- Develop strategies and policies for our online giving site and create and maintain online giving pages. This includes general pages as well as special initiatives including anniversaries or reunions, and honor/memorial support. Review static pages and ensure that text and photos are up-to-date.
- Create and manage a strategic e-solicitation program in support of overall Annual Giving goals. E-solicitations should work in conjunction with direct mail, phonathon, crowdfunding and other initiatives. Closely collaborate with the UConn Foundation’s External Relations department on strategies, scheduling and to cross promote efforts on social media outlets.
- Work with vendor to take advantage of all features in the online giving tool including providing stewardship to online donors through project updates and customized acknowledgements.
- Work closely with the UConn Foundation’s External Relations department on appropriate online donor recognition through honor rolls of donors, virtual plaques, and more.
- Provide fundraising volunteers with an exciting and fulfilling experience.
- Collect data, reconcile gifts between systems, and provide reports on various efforts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key Competencies
- Savvy user of new technologies such as crowdfunding, text-to-give, online giving, and social media. HTML, and use of Adobe Creative Suite tools preferred, but not required, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) are required.
- Ability to develop and implement policies and strategies.
- Excellent reasoning and judgment skills required.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with alumni, staff, students, volunteers, senior executives and University administration.
- Superb writing skills and attention to detail are necessary.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and professional environment with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated commitment to collaborative teamwork and individual accountability.
- A goal-oriented work ethic and integrity are essential to success. Ability to work some evenings and weekends to manage/monitor events and travel to various UConn campuses
Education and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree. 3-5 years of annual giving or other fundraising experience, preferably in higher education.
