Deputy Director: Annual Fund/Membership
Summary:
The Deputy Director: Annual Fund/Membership (Deputy Director) designs and implements membership and annual fund programs utilizing strong sales techniques to acquire and retain members/donors while supporting the mission and branding of the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens. This position reports directly to the President/CEO. Additional guidance is received through established policies and procedures, plus verbal and written communications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Create annual plan for membership program and activities, including annual and monthly income goals and expense budgets.
- Create annual plan for converting members into donors.
- Research trends in membership categories, benefits, premiums, programs, promotions and collateral. Develop recommendations for revised and refreshed membership program.
- Develop and implement plans for retention, acquisition, and upgrades to meet or exceed annual income expectations.
- Design and manage member and donor segments to support upgrades.
- Track and reconcile membership against departmental budget.
- Working with the Communications Department, create department collateral materials, including overseeing pricing, working with printer/mail house and other project management for print and electronic communications including membership brochures, regular member/email blasts, and donor/membership renewal and welcome packets.
- Liaise with the Communications Department to coordinate projects and timeframes and ensure clear lines of communication among marketing, membership, and development.
- Plan openings and member/donor activities in collaboration with Communications Department leveraging public relations and marketing assets for membership efforts.
- Plan and execute Annual Fund campaigns using print, electronic, and other fundraising media.
- Maintain and analyze membership statistics (e.g. renewals, re-joins, new joins, upgrades and downgrades) and other reports (e.g. income analysis, cash flow and member counts).
- Track and replenish member/donor information in Zoo’s public areas.
- Support all donor events with planning and staffing.
- Organize membership sales table at public Zoo events as needed.
- Recruit, train, mentor and encourage development staff and interns in data entry, mailing support, and member/donor service.
- Develop and maintain professional and respectful relationships with all Zoo staff.
- Adheres to all Central Florida Zoo policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

- Minimum 18 years old.
- Must provide a negative drug test result.
- Knowledge of cultivation, solicitation, stewardship strategies and techniques in the area of fundraising and annual funds.
- Versed in grant and proposal writing at appropriate levels for varied proposal development, knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for obtaining information.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Self-motivated and disciplined to regularly set and achieve work goals.
Education / Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years demonstrated successful fundraising experience; preferably in zoos and/or higher education (or a comparably complex organization), knowledge of STEM education preferred.
Language Ability:
- Ability to respond to common inquiries, requests or complaints from guests and/or staff in a kind and courteous manner.
- Must be able to prepare clear and concise reports.
- Multi-lingual is a plus.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Valid Florida State driver license.

Work Environment:
A large percentage of the job functions are performed in an office atmosphere. Exposure to Florida weather environments should be considered.
