The Annual Giving Officer will be responsible for strategizing and implementing a comprehensive annual giving program for the University of Utah Health Sciences. Health Sciences includes five colleges (Dentistry, Health, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy) and areas within the University Hospital clinical enterprise.

Responsibilities:
Superior data analysis and writing skills, a knowledge of soliciting diverse groups, and best practices for the annual fund are required. After detailed analysis of solicitation appeals, he/she will provide quantitative data to determine strategically optimal next steps based on best practices and cost effectiveness. This position required a high degree of initiative, discretion, organizational skills, and professionalism. Paramount is an attention to detail and the ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects.
In-depth analysis of the existing donor base will be undertaken to strategically plan a segmented annual fund campaign that is in alignment with and actively promotes the Senior Vice President for Health Science’s strategic objectives. Analysis will be undertaken periodically to fine-tune the direct mail solicitation program based on results of a given appeal to maximize returns and manage program costs. Expertise in understanding how an annual fund feeds a successful major gifts program, and executing that function, is also required. The position coordinates vendor activities for graphic design, printing, mailing and fulfillment services. This incumbent will research and strategize on potential outsourcing as appropriate.
H/she will work closely with the Director of Prospect Management and the University of Utah’s central Development Office’s Director of Annual Giving to assist in the formulation and coordination of marketing and solicitation strategy for Health Science Development’s constituents.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, related field, or equivalency; three years of fund-raising experience which includes direct solicitation of contributions, volunteer leadership support, written and verbal presentations, and strategy and market development are required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience in grant or proposal writing and a background working with local print and electronic media is preferred. Demonstrated negotiating skills are also preferred. Experience in an academic medical center is strongly preferred. Grant or proposal writing is not a requirement for this particular position.
