Associate Director of Development
As a member of the individual giving team and reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Associate Director of Development is a key member of The New School’s frontline fundraising effort who works collaboratively with various members of the DAE team and academic partners across the University. This position oversees The New School’s numerous giving programs and giving societies that raise approximately $1,000,000 annually, and engages, qualifies, solicits, and stewards potential supporters who appear to have the capacity to give unrestricted gifts of $1,000+ annually. The Associate Director is responsible for securing donations from parents, alumni, and friends of The New School across all schools, centers and programs, and also for identifying new potential supporters of $100,000+ gifts each year.
The Associate Director of Development will oversee and grow the various giving programs of the University, including: President’s Circle, Parents Council, The New Society, and the five school Boards of Governors. The position will be responsible for recruiting, onboarding/offboarding, managing, stewarding, and soliciting annual contributions from members of the giving groups. Working together with the school Senior Directors of Development, they will also identify program members and prospects ready for major giving conversations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage a portfolio of 100-150 donors and potential supporters including alumni, parents, and friends to secure leadership gifts of $1,000+ a year, mainly for the various Annual Funds and other current operating needs.
- Plan and execute on at least 150 interactions annually to qualify, cultivate, solicit, renew, and steward gifts, and to discover new potential supporters capable of making gifts of $100,000+ including bequest intentions.
- Under direction of the Senior Directors of Development, strategize and execute plans surrounding the five school Boards of Governors and school specific fundraising goals.
- Develop and execute on strategies for leadership recruitment, cultivation and stewardship of giving societies such as the Parents Council, President’s Circle and New Society.
- Lead and oversee multiple annual meetings and special events for giving programs.
- Collaborate with Prospect Development and Research colleagues to annually identify at least 20 new potential leadership donors, particularly among New School parents.
- Work with the Senior Director of Development and other leaders to analyze and benchmark leadership giving goals and appropriate benchmarks for measuring progress.
- Partner with senior fundraisers and academic leaders to engage high-level donors in the mission and activities of The New School.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience/training/certification.
- Three to five years of experience working in frontline fundraising, preferably at a university or cultural institution.
- Experience cultivating relationships and soliciting gifts from individuals.
- Highly motivated with the ability to meet ambitious annual fundraising goals.
- Ability to oversee multiple programs or projects simultaneously and preserve quality across them.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- An entrepreneurial disposition with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- A strong work ethic and integrity.
- Ability to work well independently and as a member of multiple teams.
- Some travel and weekend work is required.
WORK MODE
Hybrid – Employees hired for this position primarily work remotely with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice. Employees in this role will also be expected to use their best judgment to be on campus when necessary in order to best fulfill the responsibilities of their job descriptions.
SALARY RANGE
$90,000 – $100,000 annually
