Director of Annual Giving

Join our team as Director of Annual Giving and Digital Marketing, where you’ll lead impactful projects for clients by guiding them toward sustainable growth and deeper donor engagement. In this role, you will use your expertise to provide support to clients from healthcare systems and academic medical centers, colleges and universities, arts and cultural organizations, and many other nonprofits to advance their missions. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in client services/customer success, annual and mid-level giving programs, and digital marketing across the nonprofit sector. This position will rely heavily on project management experience, ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines, and proactive time management. The ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment, and accountability for various processes and projects is crucial. Excellent writing skills are critical to support projects that require written work product. Strong communication and presentation skills are necessary to engage with clients.

The director will work with client-facing engagement teams to conduct assessments and other consulting projects to advise clients on base-level giving strategy. This position will also serve as an account manager for agency clients, leading a full-service team delivering strategy, creative, and production for omnichannel campaigns. 

This position works collaboratively with clients, consultants, and support staff. This position will frequently partner with and learn from industry-leading consultants as they help clients to discover solutions to their operations challenges.

Requirements
  • Establish trusted advisor relationships with clients and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct assessments and subsequent deliverables in areas of digital fundraising, digital marketing and annual giving.
  • Manage client partner accounts and their assigned team members, including subject matter experts and project coordinators.
  • Provide high-level strategic counsel to clients and bring in subject matter experts as necessary.
  • Use tools such as the Partnership Status Report and BWF dashboards to lead client partnerships through data and strategy.
  • Participate in service development to ensure BWF continues to offer the products most needed by our clients.
  • Assist in business development initiatives as necessary, including sales presentations, marketing activities, and discovery calls.
  • Initiate and lead contract renewal discussions.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of methodology for managed service annual giving and digital marketing deliverable ensuring that team members adopt methodology.
  • Meet utilization goals related to billable client work.
  • Support firm-generated thought leadership by creating written content and engage in speaking opportunities to promote expertise in philanthropy through firm and industry publications, conferences, or events.
  • Participate in ongoing internal activities as a productive and active member of the firm. These may include orientation and ongoing trainings, firm-wide client review meetings, and other skill-building activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of work experience related to annual giving and digital marketing in higher education, healthcare, and/or other nonprofit settings
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Analytical skills, both qualitative and quantitative, and a solid strategic thinking ability for report writing.
  • Solid time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to create a strong, positive initial impression and maintain a solid professional credibility.

Work Environment/Conditions

  • This position can be remote or based in our Minneapolis office (locally based consultants are expected to maintain a hybrid office present)
  • Position requires ability to work in a stationary position for majority of workday
  • Continuous use of computer
  • Frequent communication with team and clients via zoom and in person
  • This is an exempt position that requires at least 40 hour of work per week but due to the nature of this role, additional hours are required when deadlines need to be met
  • Overnight travel to client sites, conferences or firm meetings is sometimes required (up 25% of time)

Compensation and Benefits Annual base salary range of $80,000 to $95,000 plus bonus potential based on qualifications and experience.  BWF offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
