The Opportunity:
The Alumni Engagement Officer strategically engages alumni and provides tangible benefits to alumni and students through events and volunteer opportunities. This position is an integral member of the Engagement/Communications team and serves as the point person for conceiving and executing successful alumni engagement programming aimed at graduates from PSU’s 185,000+ alumni base and building relationships that will lead to support for Portland State University.

Portland State University Foundation is looking to hire two Alumni Engagement Officers:

  • One will focus on volunteers and will be the primary contact and liaison for the PSU Career Center and schools and units. This role develops and manages career-oriented volunteer opportunities, programming aimed at developing a strong and engaged alumni base, and works to connect alumni to volunteer opportunities.
  • The other will focus on events and will conceive, manage and execute key events aimed at engaging and developing PSU’s alumni base including networking events, career-oriented events, affinity group events and family-focused engagement opportunities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conceive, manage and execute key engagement opportunities aimed at developing a strong and engaged alumni base.
  • Working with colleagues, conceive and execute career-oriented events and programming to grow engagement among alumni and PSU affinity groups.
  • Working closely with Digital Engagement Officers, identify alumni leaders and foster programming and opportunities to grow pipeline.
  • Prioritize high value opportunities to engage alumni and strategically develop programming and volunteer opportunities.
  • Positively represent the PSU Foundation and the University in public and professional ways.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Measures of Success:

  • Meet or exceed engagement metrics, including event attendance, volunteer participation, and increased alumni engagement.
  • Effective relationship management both internally with PSU partners/units and externally with alumni, students and vendors.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum one year of relevant project management experience.
  • Three years of experience in managing complex programs and projects involving many participants with varying involvement and expertise across a large institution or multiple institutions, preferred.
  • Experience in event production, alumni engagement or volunteer management, preferred.
  • Experience in higher education or non-profit environments, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements:

  • Proficiency with donor databases. Blackbaud CRM competency, preferred.
  • Knowledge of project management software or alumni engagement platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, grasp complex subjects, meet project deadlines and build productive professional relationships.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency, including experience using Microsoft Office, Google Applications, DocuSign and other paperless management tools.
  • Demonstrate reliable, regular, and predictable work attendance.
  • Self-motivated and require little guidance to tackle projects, tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to create and collaborate within an equitable and inclusive team environment, and to communicate effectively within the context of diverse behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.

Other Essential Information:

  • Department: Development + Engagement and Communications
  • Work Days/Hours: Full Time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday
  • Work Type: We currently have a hybrid work model at the PSU Foundation. The Alumni Engagement Officer will be required to work at least 16-24 hours/week on Portland State University campus and the remainder of the work week may be worked remotely in Oregon or Washington.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Annual Compensation: $44,700 – $55,900 (depending on experience)
