Voorhees University invites applications for a staff position in the division of University Advancement as Alumni/Development Coordinator.

Presidential Charge and Scope of Appointment:

In accordance with the University’s mission, Dr. Ronnie Hopkins, 10th President of Voorhees University has issued the charge and call to action articulated through the University’s mantra: Begin. Believe. Become. that will advance Voorhees University to The Next Level of Excellence.

Salary: $45,000 – $55,000

Schedule: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday (Evenings, weekends, and travel may be required)

Essential Functions:

  • Directs and implements a comprehensive alumni relations program to build alumni participation and support through strong communications, personal interactions, and organization of reunions, chapters, and special events.
  • Responsible for the management, coordination, and control of alumni relations activities.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of the Alumni/donor database.
  • Assists in the organizing and/or reorganization alumni chapters.
  • Provides leadership and direction to build a strong, regional based program and National Alumni Association.
  • Advises and assists in the planning, directing, reporting, development and implementation of procedures, Alumni activities, and programs including the National Alumni Association.
  • Responsible for recommending and carrying out programs designed to foster continuing alumni interest in and support of the institutional goals and objectives, programs and needs.
  • Responsible for the organization and coordination of campus activities and special events involving alumni (i.e., Homecoming, Founder’s Day, Commencement).
  • Assists in the organization and coordination of all alumni events, which include but not limited to: Hall of Fame gala, Homecoming, Commencement, Founder’s Day, and UNCF activities (i.e. Pre-Alumni council, National Alumni Council).
  • Solicits, maintains, and tracks accurate and up-to-date alumni information.
  • Plans, directs and executes programs in concert with the Vice President for University Advancement and Senior Director of Development (e.g., reunions, special events, the regional club network, student-alumni relations, career networking efforts) to help meet the alumni relations goals.
  • Designs and implements the annual giving program from concept to completion.
  • Plans, directs and executes the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospective donors to Voorhees University to include gifts and commitments up to the major gifts level.
  • Supervises the creation and mailing of announcements and appeals (digitally and hard copy).
  • Assists the Vice President for University Advancement and Senior Director of Development in the identification, solicitation, proposal preparation, and reporting requirements for corporate and foundation solicitations.
  • Recruits and meets with annual giving volunteer committees.
  • Conducts personal solicitations with annual fund donors and prospects.
  • Manages phone-a-thon and social media driven fundraising.
  • Creates and executes fundraising strategies for the annual fund campaign.
  • Interacts with the annual fund donors via telephone or in-person meeting to secure funds.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for University Advancement and the Senior Director of Development.

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree from a regional or national accredited college or university required.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Five years of progressive experience in fund raising, and familiarity with principles and practices of annual giving.
  • Experience in educational advancement.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills; demonstrated personal solicitation experience

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of institutions of higher education, particularly of HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with and involvement in the University’s role in the community.
  • Previous fund-raising experience and/or sales and marketing skills.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of database research and maintenance.
  • Ability to work with students, as well as volunteers of all ages.
  • Must be able to travel and work evenings and weekends as warranted.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks, details and support staff.
  • Effective time management skills and ability to work as part of a team.
