Founded in 1869, the University of Otago in Dunedin celebrated it 150th anniversary in 2019 and is New Zealand’s oldest university.
The University has a strong teaching and research tradition and well-established national and international linkages. The University’s fundraising activity and alumni engagement is undertaken from the centralised Development & Alumni Relations Office (DARO).
Following significant strategic investment, DARO is now focussing on growing philanthropy and engagement with our global alumni and partners, to enable the achievement of some ambitious goals.
The Role
Reporting to the Director, Development & Alumni Relations, the primary focus of this role is to lead the strategy, development and implementation of the Annual Giving programme and also to integrate and manage the University’s Trusts & Foundations programme.
Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing to the development of the strategic and annual operational plan for the development function alongside other DARO managers and relevant senior university staff
- Developing and implementing the Annual Giving plan policies and processes
- Developing and implementing the development plan policies and processes for specific fundraising initiatives raising and growing philanthropic funds from Trusts & Foundations.
- Stewardship of Annual Giving and Trusts & Foundations donors
- Budgeting, reporting and database (Raiser’s Edge)
Person Specification
- We are looking for a talented, proactive and creative annual giving fundraiser with at least five years’ experience in direct mail campaigns, including creating and writing direct mail. A high level of proficiency in Raiser’s Edge (or similar database) and experience in stewarding donors is essential.
- You will need to be innovative, collaborative, highly motivated and looking for an opportunity to make your mark within this professional, friendly and supportive team.
This role is a full time role, based in Dunedin, with a salary of NZ$82,000 to NZ95,000, depending on experience.
