The Emporia State University Foundation (ESUF) in Emporia, Kansas is seeking a go-getter who is enthusiastic about direct marketing, energetic about data, passionate about leading college students, and ready to collaboratively transform a traditional call center in to a dynamic, multichannel alumni and donor engagement center. The salary range is $37,500 to $50,000 commensurate with qualifications. This position earns 22 paid vacation days annually, and employees are encouraged to take time away to recharge.

Responsibilities: 

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Analytics and Annual Giving, the assistant director is responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive annual giving program and long-term strategy. ESUF’s annual giving program seeks to maximize participation and annual philanthropic support from alumni and friends of Emporia State University – generally those giving in the amount of $2,000 and below – through targeted direct mail, email, phone calls, text messaging, social media, and peer-to-peer solicitations. Specific duties include:

  • In collaboration with the senior director, develop annual giving goals and strategic plans for donor acquisition, renewal, and reactivation, with the ultimate outcome of building the pipeline of future major gift prospects in alignment with Foundation and University strategic objectives.
  • Develop and execute a solicitation calendar that effectively utilizes all forms of annual giving solicitations to achieve annual giving goals.
  • As a coach, mentor, leader, and strategist, leverage modern marketing tools and a team of student employees to help cultivate, engage, solicit, and steward alumni and friends of Emporia State.
  • Innovate and implement new events and opportunities to increase annual gifts and donor participation.
  • Work collaboratively with university development officers, department heads and deans to effectively communicate the mission, goals, operating procedures, and priorities of the annual giving program.
  • Implement and lead a volunteer committee of ESU employees in support of the annual Campus Campaign, to inspire giving by Emporia State faculty and staff.
  • Advise and coordinate with the Emporia State Student Foundation to effectively promote philanthropy amongst current Emporia State students.
  • In collaboration with the Alumni Relations team, inspire and manage alumni volunteers.
Qualifications: 

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience within the nonprofit or higher education environments; demonstrated success in creating and implementing a fundraising campaign; and experience with fundraising or sales technologies are preferred.

Additionally, the ideal candidate for the Assistant Director of Annual Giving role will be a creative thinker and a skilled project manager who can both set vision and execute strategy effectively. The successful candidate will take initiative and work well independently but will also possess strong interpersonal communication skills and will thrive in a collaborative environment.
