Under the supervision of the Director of Annual Giving, the Next Generation Philanthropy Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic engagement and fundraising plan to support the university’s priorities of increasing recent alumni giving participation, donor retention and growth of a robust donor pipeline. The Next Generation Philanthropy Officer will be a key relationship-builder serving as an integral member of the Annual Philanthropy (AP) team, spearheading student and recent alumni initiatives that lead to a strong relationship with the university and increase engagement and philanthropic contributions.

The Next Generation Philanthropy Officer will drive philanthropic support for causes around which current students and recent undergraduate alumni are most passionate through social media, email outreach, texting, and crowdfunding. This role also serves as the main point of contact for student and recent alumni fundraising initiatives, including management of the annual Senior Class Gift campaign and integration with Husky Giving Day activities. This includes working with student organizations throughout the year to develop a robust culture of giving that leverages the power of peer-to-peer fundraising and bringing communities together through digital campaigns. Regular reporting on fundraising results as well as tracking of key performance metrics will be maintained throughout the year. This position will also provide training, guidelines and best practices around effective use of peer-to-peer campaigns to partners as needed.

Responsibilities: 

Next Generation Giving

  • Develop and implement strategies that focus on building a strong base and pipeline of future support among emerging and recent graduates as well as friends of the UW
  • Work in collaboration with partners across Advancement to find new and innovative ways to engage, acquire, and retain recent alumni donors.
  • Execute on donor acquisition strategies that leverage an integrated, multi-channel approaches and peer-to-peer techniques in collaboration with campus partners.
  • Create and advise on content to be included in solicitation, engagement and stewardship
  • Provide analysis and reporting on next generation philanthropic trends across higher education and among UW recent alumni
  • Collect data that inform philanthropic engagement strategies among recent alumni through focus groups and surveys

Student Philanthropy

  • Working within Advancement to launch student philanthropic education programs and fundraising campaigns
  • Builds awareness for, and fosters a culture of, student philanthropy through crowdfunding, Husky Giving Day and Senior Class Gift Council. Creates opportunities for students to become philanthropic ambassadors and identifies opportunities to develop and grow student philanthropy in collaboration with campus-wide partners.
  • Manages the Senior Class Gift program, including recruiting SCG leadership council and training senior class agents in executing a solicitation plan and timeline.
  • Serve in partnership with Commencement and UW Alumni Association teams to establish and intertwine Senior Class Gift goals, manage the fundraising campaign, ensure stewardship for senior gift donors, and attend in-person donor/stewardship events as needed.
  • Deliver analysis and reporting of student giving, recent alumni giving and Together UW crowdfunding performance throughout the year

Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with student volunteers, campus-wide partners, Annual Philanthropy teammates and vendors.
  • Build/maintain relationships with various University partners who can help promote student and recent alumni marketing needs and strategize how they can impact the overall campaign goals to increase recent alumni giving participation.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience in a non-profit setting, preferably higher education.
  • Ability to communicate creatively and effectively to a varied constituency; excellent written and verbal skills and the ability to think and plan strategically.
  • Demonstrated initiative, a careful attention to detail, the ability to work within specific deadlines, prioritize, maintain multiple tasks and manage student workers and student volunteers are important qualifications.
  • Ability to work independently, creatively and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment is important.
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of the integrated advancement model. Knowledge of alumni relations / development / advancement principles.
  • Knowledge of UW Advancement policies and procedures, including use of the development database software ADVANCE.
