Reporting to the Director of Development, Annual Giving, the Digital Engagement Officer (DXO) works to provide a personalized engagement and giving experience for identified donor groups by leveraging digital engagement strategies to effectively build relationships and grow overall annual financial support for Portland State University.

The DXO is responsible for actively building relationships with a portfolio of donors and prospects. Leveraging digital technologies, this position executes regular touch points to engage, solicit and steward middle-pyramid and emerging donors. The DXO also partners closely with the Annual Giving team to advance pipeline development and middle-pyramid growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Work toward clearly defined activity, donor retention and reactivation, and revenue goals, for a portfolio of approximately 500-1,000 current and lapsed donors, and prospective non-donors.
  • Manage solicitations, stewardship, outreach, and events in collaboration with Annual Giving director and PSUF partners.
  • Leverage technology, including social media, texting, video conferencing software and other digital tools to build rapport, steward and solicit donors, and encourage engagement with university programs.
  • Meet and exceed clearly defined activity, donor retention and reactivation, and revenue goals.
  • Develop and maintain broad knowledge of the university, such as admissions, athletics, units, and student programs. Develop network of contacts throughout the university and partner with them to build a digital library of relevant content to share with donors.
  • Grow pipeline of middle-tier donors through regular outreach to new donors and collaboration with Research and Prospect Management and Gift Processing teams.
  • Proactively seek out and embrace new technologies to grow digital engagement.
  • With Annual Giving director, review best practices from peer institutions to ensure strong annual giving performance metrics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree with two years transferable experience.
  • Two years of related experience in a fundraising or sales environment.
  • Direct exposure to front-line individual fundraising or sales experience.
  • Experience in higher education or non-profit environment, preferred.
  • Annual Fund experience in a higher education or large/complex nonprofit institution, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Requirements: 

  • Proficient with donor databases. Blackbaud CRM competency, preferred
  • Technical savvy with emerging digital resources.
  • Enthusiasm and ability to make direct person-to-person solicitations.
  • Adept at using social media, text, phone and video conferencing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence.
  • A high degree of integrity and strong affinity for the mission of higher education.
  • Functions and communicates effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Seeks opportunities to gain experience working and collaborating in diverse settings with a willingness to change for continual improvement.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, grasp complex subjects, meet project deadlines and build productive professional relationships.

  • Work Days/Hours: Full Time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday
  • Work Type: We currently have a hybrid work model at the PSU Foundation.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Annual Compensation: $47,819 – $62,164 (depending on experience)
