Director, Employee Giving
Under the leadership of the Associate Vice President, Annual Giving the incumbent will develop and execute comprehensive cultivation, solicitation and volunteer management strategies to achieve goals for the employee giving program within the broader priorities for the Office of Institutional Advancement (OIA) for Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health. Recruit and manage volunteers to develop effective strategies to encourage philanthropic support of the organization. Concentration on leadership annual gifts, renewals, upgrades and acquisition of employees to enhance the major gift pipeline.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for the strategic execution and management of the employee giving program. Specific duties include:
- Create and execute clearly articulated fundraising goals and short- and long-term strategic plans. Guide goal setting and the development and implementation of employee giving strategic plans for each campus to guarantee goals are attained.
- Ensure that prospects are solicited at appropriate contribution levels by developing a comprehensive outreach calendar which targets individuals via multiple channels like:
- Individual cultivation and solicitation of and by volunteers or staff
- Direct marketing (mail and email)
- Digital outeach (online giving portals and crowdfunding)
- Engagement, stewardship and general outreach events
- Develope powerful volunteer recruitment and management strategies to ensure that volunteers are proactively encouraged, trained and supported. Serve as the key liaison and foster positive relationships with volunteer leadership to encourage a culture of innovation, customer service, teamwork and collaboration.
- Serve as the annual giving project manager for Jefferson’s annual Giving Day coordinating employee giving and team coordination.
- Partner and collaborate with other campuses and departments/units such as Human Resources to implement strategic efforts as appropriate.
- Maintain employee giving program budget and track all expenditures including coordinating with outside vendors such as printers, writers, postal service and consultants.
- In collaboration with the OIA Donor Relations/Stewardship team, the director works to ensure that annual gifts are stewarded according to industry best practices.
- Work with Communications staff to generate promotional materials and brochures as needed. Prepare written proposals, informational materials, and other materials needed to secure gifts.
- Report to the Assistant Vice President, Annual Giving within the Office of Institutional Advancement (OIA).
- Various other duties as assigned.
- Guided by Jefferson’s mission, organizational culture, values, and vision for the future, provide inspirational fundraising leadership through teamwork, collaboration, and loyalty.
Educational/Training Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required, advanced study or additional degree in a related field is helpful.
Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of three to five (3-5) years of progressively responsible experience in annual giving or progressively responsible experience in direct marketing or fundraising. Experience in higher education preferred.
- An excellent track record of managing, leading, and directing volunteers. Ability to recruit and demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire volunteers and staff with an emphasis on building a strong team effort.
- Proven experience in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and securing annual gifts.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with both internal and external constituencies.
- Ability to develop and manage projections and a budget.
- Ability to supervise various fundraising programs and individuals.
- Experience with fundraising database software systems and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
