Assistant Director of Development, Heinz College
The Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy consists of two schools, the School of Public Policy and Management and the School of Information Systems and Management, and offers an academic experience unlike any other. We are searching for an Assistant Director of Development, who will identify, qualify, and cultivate a portfolio of prospective major gift donors, and particularly, those whose gifts that align with our values of diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice. You will significantly contribute to donor stewardship initiatives by pursuing connections and discovering donor values, capacity, interests and passions. By ensuring quality and positive momentum within an assigned portfolio, you will successfully convert prospects to donors, build context for gift proposals, and develop and implement strategic gift solicitations. This is an exciting opportunity for someone proficient in developing mutually beneficial strategies that improve opportunities to steward donors, further enhancing profitable relationships.
Reporting to the Executive Director-Development, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Identifying, qualifying and cultivating a portfolio of major gift prospective donors.
- Determining ongoing relationship activities with prospect; recommending specific purpose and level of gift; identifying those to be involved in cultivation and subsequent solicitations.
- Connect with other university partners, particularly when there may be multiple contacts with the prospect/donor.
- Support Annual Giving and other development efforts and projects.
- Planning trips and personal outreach to assigned prospects to attain 150 or more visits annually, to reach annual dedication goals and to build a pipeline of prospects for future solicitation.
- Steward donors and participate in donor recognition events that recognize donors on campus and in areas where gift officer travels.
- Tracking prospect outreach and relationship building through each stage through University Advancement’s database. Producing prospect visit summaries. Track progress of proposals of $10K or greater. Follow up in writing to acknowledge prospects after visits and gifts. Implement plans for moves management with prospects. Report progress on goals including number of visits, solicitations, commitments, upgrades and qualifications.
- Collaborating with faculty, deans and other advancement colleagues as needed.
- Work with the External Relations team for the Heinz College to plan and execute, steward and cultivate the college’s donor pool.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/experience required
- Minimum of three (3) years’ professional fundraising experience:
- One (1) to three (3) years’ professional fundraising experience in higher education or a hospital/health care environment
- Experience working in other advancement departments such as donor relations and stewardship, donor communications and/or alumni relations
- Must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle driver’s license; must complete the National Safety Council Defensive Driver Training once every three years.
