Position Summary: 

University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) is dedicated to soliciting the private funding necessary to support the strategic goals of the University in teaching, learning, and research. The personnel of UDAR work university-wide as well as within individual schools and colleges of the University to discover, motivate, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, faculty, and friends for immediate, long-range, and future financial support, through gifts and pledges to the University, for critical operations such as student aid, faculty support, academic and research program development, and facilities and infrastructure. UDAR’s endeavors raise funds for immediate University use and also for the University’s endowment.

The Assistant Director, Student Philanthropy will help plan and implement fundraising programs for the institution with a focus on student philanthropy. The Assistant Director will identify prospects and develop strategic plans on maintaining student donors. This role will coordinate with various members of the university for event planning, and partner with different departments on campaigns.

The Assistant Director, Student Philanthropy will manage and oversee all day-to-day aspects of the 1831 Fund and Stern Legacy student giving campaigns to maintain 60% senior class participation in giving.  This includes committee management and oversight of weekly meetings, gift tracking and projections, event planning and execution including complete oversight of student-facing “day of giving” and Giving Tuesday efforts, creative development and execution of digital and printed materials, serving as staff liaison to students on behalf of UDAR, and representing UDAR and student philanthropy to University leadership.

This role will also strengthen and grow philanthropic opportunities for graduate students to encourage giving at the graduate level including growing partnerships with student groups across campus to increase student giving opportunities, in addition to above mentioned fundraising for scholarships (Greek life, student clubs, student activities and niche projects, etc.).

Qualifications: 

Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree

Required Experience:
3+ years experience in student affairs, student engagement, senior class participation, volunteer management, annual giving, higher education

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current trends for student engagement and student philanthropy.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Must be extremely organized with the ability to effectively and efficiently time manage competing priorities in a demanding, fast paced environment.
  • Must possess event planning experience.
  • Ability to lead volunteers toward an ambitious goal.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population, including students and/or student volunteers, alumni, and university leadership.
  • Familiarity with MS Office, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Experience managing and leading volunteers toward a shared cause or mission.
  • Evening and some weekend work required.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Familiarity with fundraising software such as Advance, project management software, and managing creative projects.
