Major Gift Officer
The Major Gifts Officer is primarily responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of philanthropic gifts for St. John Fisher College. The Major Gifts Officer reports to the Assistant Vice President for Development and works with the College-wide development team in supporting the needs of the College. They will manage a portfolio of approximately 100 donors and prospects, create fundraising strategies for those prospects, develop relationships with donors, solicit gifts in the $1,000 – $250,000-plus range, and steward donors of the college.
The Office of Institutional Advancement operates as a team-oriented environment, and the Major Gifts Officer works to maximize fundraising and increase the involvement of alumni in the life of the College. The Major Gifts Officer is expected to work collaboratively and constantly seek ways to increase effectiveness and efficiency. Success in this position will be evaluated through predetermined metrics including the number of visits completed, number of solicitations made, participation rate of prospects engaged and the ability to move a prospect through the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship stages in a timely manner.
- Using Gravyty, actively manage a portfolio of approximately 100 major gift prospects, repeatedly moving prospects through the major gift process (Identification / Qualification / Cultivation / Solicitation / Stewardship), as well as moving prospects in and out of their portfolio with regularity.
- Complete personal, face-to-face, Zoom video and phone call donor visits annually.
- Participate in College special events as they relate to engagement opportunities for fundraising.
- Routinely secure new and renewed memberships in the Spire Society, the College’s leadership annual giving recognition society.
- Responsible for accurate and timely documenting of all personal prospect contacts and outcomes in prospect database.
- Manage portfolios and proposal activity in prospect database, updating regularly.
- Actively participate in prospect review sessions and in the identification of new major gift prospects.
- Represent the College at on- and off-campus events.
- Provide recommendations and input on invitation lists for College events that involve donors or prospects.
- Identify opportunities for events that engage prospects, with special attention given to intimate or unique experiences, coordinating with the Director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement on execution.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of development or related experience, with preference for experience in a higher education setting.
- Track record of successful experience with institutional advancement, fundraising, marketing, event planning, and/or volunteer management.
- Sophisticated interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop relationships with those that have the capacity to support the College with a gift.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and adjust to changing priorities.
