Purpose of Position

As we build-out our development team, we are searching for a highly collaborative annual giving leader to manage and enhance our existing annual giving program, taking it to the next level.

Who we want:
An experienced, dynamic leader with a track record of success building a strategic, comprehensive annual giving program to serve as the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Institutional Advancement’s (IA) next Senior Director or Director of Annual Giving. We are hiring one position – title will depend on level of experience.

Essential Functions

What you’ll do:

  • Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development, and playing a critical role within Institutional Advancement (IA), you will develop a set of innovative solutions for reaching ambitious revenue and donor goals.
  • You’ll be charged with leading a multifaceted program that focuses on data-driven, industry best practices to increase donor participation and overall dollars raised.
  • The annual giving program will eventually grow to include personal solicitations and major gift pipeline identification conducted by frontline fundraising staff.
  • Ultimately lead annual giving may report up through the person in this role.
  • When the timing is appropriate and, in an effort, to lead by example, you may manage a small portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects and spearhead UTEP’s first Giving Day.
  • You’ll create a strategic and comprehensive annual plan and oversee its implementation using innovative solutions and sophisticated data analytics to increase dollars raised, acquire and retain donors, and qualify major gift prospects.
  • By identifying and executing targeted strategies, you will successfully solicit based on key audiences including: LYBUNTS, SYBUNTS, future/non-donors, undergraduate alumni, recent graduates, graduate alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and students.
  • To evaluate your program results and guide subsequent program strategies, you’ll identify and implement needed reports and program dashboard essentials to monitor program effectiveness.
  • Complies with all State and University policies.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s objectives, policies and applicable laws.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • Five/Six years annual giving and/or development experience (years’ experience and discretion of hiring manager determines title), with three years of experience leading a comprehensive annual giving program with demonstrated success using current best practices and achieving and exceeding goals (required)
  • Outstanding strategic communication experience including writing, editing, and digital marketing

  • An intrinsic motivation for driving results, achieving numerical goals, and commitment to the pursuit of excellence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Portfolio of example annual fund solicitations from a higher education institution including writing samples from student success initiatives
  • Proven success in personally raising annual gifts through face-to-face solicitations
  • Experience supervising staff and developing successful, growing teams
  • Advanced degree
  • Experience using a fundraising database (we use Raiser’s Edge/NXT and FPM)

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience

Hours per Week: 40 hours per week standard from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
