Assistant Director of Annual Giving – CrowdPower
Basic Function
The Assistant Director of CrowdPower will report to the Assistant Director of e-Philanthropy. This position will oversee the day-to-day operation of CrowdPower, MSU’s crowdfunding platform, play a major role in university giving day initiatives — Giving Tuesday and Give Green Day — as well as other online focused annual giving initiatives.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, plans, develops and implements basic marketing strategies for small or non-complex fundraising projects.
- Crowdfunding Manager
- Serves as project manager for operations of campus-wide crowdfunding initiative.
- Establishes and manages crowdfunding project guidelines and application process.
- Continually improves marketing guidebook for running a successful crowdfunding project.
- Identifies, recruits and selects potential crowdfunding projects.
- Builds relationships with crowdfunding project owners to help create successful fundraising efforts.
- Creates a personalized stewardship plan for each crowdfunding project with owners.
- Giving Day Campaigns
- Serves as project manager for Giving Tuesday campaign.
- Helps plan and implement Give Green Day campaign each year.
- Works with partners to develop and improve web efforts for giving day campaigns.
- Supporting Annual Giving Digital Philanthropy Objectives

- Generates content for online philanthropic initiatives including website, emails, social media, texting and more. Assists with optimizing content, including creative tactics, to increase results.
- Coordinates marketing and promotional activities designed to promote awareness of the new programs within the campus community and public.
- Ensures good customer service to both internal and external audiences by researching issues to resolve problems, providing appropriate information to answer questions and explaining services or strategies.
- Measures and reports performance of all digital marketing campaigns and assesses against goals, reporting results to appropriate higher levels of administration and making recommendations to improve.
- Plans, executes, and measures experiments and conversion tests.
- Keeps abreast of new and innovative methods for increase donations through online opportunities.
- Supports the Associate Director(s) and Director on additional projects as requested.

- Director/Supervisor – in order to receive assignments and clarification, report on progress and exchange information.

Impact on Programs/Services/Operations
Errors in the dissemination of information to the public or within the University could cause serious inconvenience to other people both within and outside the University and have an adverse impact in the development of support and goodwill for the University.
Work Environment
Negligible disagreeable working conditions. The job requires moderate physical effort and involves sitting in place, viewing a VDT screen, manual dexterity for operating equipment and lifting boxes and bulk mailings of 26 to 75 pounds 26-75% of the time.
Education/Experience
Required:
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing and/or Business; one – three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in fund raising, public relations, marketing, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in marketing, communications, or annual giving
- 1-3 years of demonstrated success in managing online marketing/fundraising campaigns, including direct solicitation, social media, search engine optimization and online advertising.
- Solid understanding of digital fundraising technologies and best practices.
- Experience with Google Analytics and SEO monitoring tools.
- Quantitative and analytical skills necessary to quickly and accurately assess campaign effectiveness.
- Experience leveraging a CMS and technical understating of CRM technologies.
- Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work well independently and effectively as a team member.
- Excellent oral, written, listening and presentation skills.
Other Qualifications
- Desired experience working with a member-service and/or fundraising organization.
- Preferred knowledge or experience working with crowdfunding.
- Knowledge or understanding of higher education donor CRM solutions, like Advance.
- Experience in setting up and optimizing PPC campaigns on all major search engines.
