Associate Director of Integrated Marketing
The Associate Director of Integrated Marketing in the Office of Annual Giving (OAG) at Johns Hopkins University reports to the Director of Integrated Marketing & Operations.
The Associate Director of Integrated Marketing is a member of the Marketing and Operations team within OAG. This position, in close partnership with the Director of Integrated Marketing, will manage the creation, implementation, and tracking of multi-channel direct marketing campaigns (including direct mail, digital, and phonathon channels) targeting a variety of constituents, ranging from alumni and parents to faculty/staff and “friends” of the university. These campaigns that the position will oversee aim to meet annual revenue goals, increase alumni participation rates, and broaden the base of constituent engagement. This role will also have the opportunity to build-out a currently modest digital footprint, including the opportunity to think through solicitations and stewardship via e-mail, social media, digital ads, and earned vs. paid media.
The Office of Annual Giving is a growing team that currently consists of 8 colleagues who provide annual giving services to the nine schools of the university, various departments of Johns Hopkins Medicine, and several centers and institutes, totaling over 25 partners. These annual giving services include developing comprehensive and integrated solicitation strategies that are optimal for each development unit and are data-driven. Like all offices and units in Development and Alumni Relations (DAR), OAG is committed to a donor-directed philanthropy philosophy.
Specific Responsibilities:
- In close partnership with the Director of Integrated Marketing and Operations, along with various OAG divisional liaisons, this role will manage the message creation, production calendar, testing of messaging, marketing budgets, and ROI for over 25 units.
- Develop annual and multiyear solicitation and stewardship plans that allow units to achieve short and long-term goals around revenue and donor count—create appropriate goals, time tables, deadlines, workflows, and segmentations, for the various units of Johns Hopkins that OAG serves.
- Expand the current OAG digital footprint and outline a future plan that will allow OAG and Johns Hopkins Development & Alumni Relations to be better positioned to meet fundraising goals in a growing mobile/digital society.
- Utilize reports, data pulls, spreadsheets, and other database tools to monitor accuracy of data and track overall progress of the Office of Annual Giving’s direct appeal efforts.
- Work closely with the Office of Advancement Services along with the Sr. Associate Director of Data Analysis on OAG to design and implement an appropriate data infrastructure that will allow OAG to better track direct response results.
- Serve as key liaison with direct appeal external vendors, including the negotiation and management of contracts with printers and mail houses.
- Participate in short and longterm strategic planning for the Office of Annual Giving providing analysis of data for trends, areas to improve and resources related to the direct appeal program.
- Conduct research on best-in-class marketing programs across sectors and make recommendations to further align Office of Annual Giving strategies with industry best practices.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Integrated Marketing.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
- At least five years of progressive experience in direct response marketing, with experience in annual giving preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing and deploying web, social, email, and print content.
- Knowledge of graphic design and desktop publishing, preferably Microsoft Publisher and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
- Experience with website development and maintenance, information architecture, content management systems, HTML.
- Working knowledge of social media and Google analytics; knowledge of developing and implementing Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
- Comfortable working in a complex, multi-divisional, results-oriented, fast environment.
- Ability to meet deadlines, establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve goals.
- Strong organizational skills and sound judgement around prioritizing many and sometimes competing obligations.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and respond appropriately to donor and staff inquiries and concerns.
- Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new software as needed.
- Thrive in high-energy environments that often have short deadlines and shifting priorities.
- Have the ability to work independently as well as on a team.
- Strong organizational and prioritizing skills with ability to stay calm under pressure when handling multiple tasks.
