Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Alumni & Volunteer Engagement, the Director of Alumni Career Services will develop and manage a comprehensive and strategic alumni career development engagement plan, intended to increase alumni and donor awareness, participation and philanthropic investment; expand volunteer advocacy and involvement in supporting key campus priorities; provide lifelong value to graduates’ degrees; and foster lasting connections between alumni, students, the University, its Schools and Colleges, and the Alumni Association.  The director serves as an integral member of the department’s leadership team and liaises directly with Associate Provosts, Career Development Directors, Chief Development Officers, and other campus colleagues to ideate, recommend, and manage delivery of both campus-wide and bespoke alumni career development strategies for their respective units, all designed with intentional focus on maximizing constituent involvement throughout the entire student to alumni life-cycle, and with strategic inclusion of donor and prospect cultivation and stewardship opportunities throughout.

Essential Functions

Leadership:

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive alumni career services plan to inform, involve, and invest substantial numbers of alumni, students, and other constituents as university volunteers, donors, and program participants; establish associated strategies, protocols, and operational plans.
  • Consult with Associate Provosts, Career Development Directors, Chief Development Officers, and other campus colleagues to develop viable strategies and associated programs and services to augment their respective student and alumni career development and mentoring initiatives, and to maximize communications and resources available to alumni.

Partnerships:

  • Collaborate with campus colleagues to identify, cultivate, and steward prominent alumni, donors, and prospects through substantive career development volunteer opportunities; facilitate other relevant interactions between identified constituents and university representatives as appropriate.
  • Establish and direct a campus-wide mentoring program to steward high level donors and support student and young alumni mentoring activities, internships, and job placement assistance.
  • Partner with campus colleagues and industry network volunteers to identify and involve C-Suite alumni in working to build corporate alumni programs at their respective companies.

Operations

  • Direct expansion, diversification, execution, and assessment of professional development and mentoring strategies, including online and in-person programs and services, resource development and deployment, and related promotions and marketing initiatives; develop and manage associated operating budgets.
  • Develop and manage strategies to incorporate professional development and networking activities into expanded numbers of student and alumni engagement programs as appropriate.
  • Serve as resident expert of all career development software applications and social media platforms; formulate and manage related policies, procedures and resources; coordinate delivery of staff and constituent training as needed.

Volunteer & Donor Engagement

  • Cultivate an active and diverse corps of volunteer mentors, industry professionals, presenters, and corporate contacts through personal outreach and ongoing relationship management; coordinate placement of volunteers in appropriate opportunities; support development and delivery of related and ongoing volunteer communications and training opportunities.
  • Introduce strategies to further cultivate relationships towards promoting career services volunteers to donors; ideate and manage other volunteer and donor cultivation, stewardship, and recognition initiatives as appropriate.

Other Functions

Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Alumni & Volunteer Engagement and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Alumni Relations

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor’s degree, with 6 years of relevant and progressively responsible experience to include career services, program development, and/or alumni, donor and volunteer relations initiatives.
  • Proven experience with budget development and management.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and ease in fostering relationships with a wide range of constituents and varying levels of authority to achieve institutional goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Superior organizational and project management skills.
  • Evidence of understanding and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Valid driver’s license with ability and willingness to travel independently and/or work evening and weekend hours as required.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Advanced degree.
  • Supervisory and staff development experience
  • Experience using CRM and volunteer management platforms.
  • Experience working within a higher education or non-profit environment preferred.
