Director of Alumni Engagement
Primary Purpose of the Position
The Director will also develop and implement a comprehensive program to similarly engage current students by connecting them with alumni, sharing the many ways they can remain involved with the university post-graduation and creating a culture of giving by raising awareness about the importance of their personal philanthropy and alumni participation.
Position Requirements
- An accomplished leader with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated understanding of the basic principles and techniques of successful alumni engagement as they pertain to strategy and analysis; communications; effective methods of donor/alumni research, data management and various forms of solicitation
- Ability to work collegially and effectively as a member of the Winston-Salem State University community
- Strong project management skills with attention to detail; ability to handle multiple priorities; strong organizational and implementation skills
- Ability to effectively articulate the university’s educational mission, strategic aims and fundraising programs
- Position requires significant travel; ability to travel and to work evenings and weekends, as needed, is required
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, and Education
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred
- Three to five years of progressively responsible professional experience in alumni relations/ advancement or equivalent experience preferred
- Significant experience recruiting, guiding and motivating volunteers individually and in groups is a plus
