The Officer manages the process of identifying, qualifying, assigning, and personally soliciting and cultivating a portfolio of 350-450 donors who have the capacity to give $500 or more to Dana-Farber through Annual Giving, and works closely with colleagues from other business units to coordinate prospect management activity.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Personal Solicitation:

  • Personally solicit 6-9 prospects per month (including 85+ donor visits per year).
  • Identify and research prospects; solicit prospects for increased leadership level commitments ($1,500+); make leadership level asks; qualify and steward prospects toward annual leadership, principal and major gift solicitation; prepare and submit proposals; cultivate prospects; track results.
  • Utilize direct mail, phone, email, or volunteers for solicitation or cultivation as appropriate.
  • Keep current with and be able to convey information about highlights and initiatives at Dana-Farber.

Personal Solicitation Preparation:

  • Generate list for donor visit requests, produce mailings and conduct visit calls and e-mails. Schedule donor visits.
  • Coordinate with research department to provide donor profile information as needed.
  • Compile information packets and marketing materials for donor visits based on donor research data.
  • Draft donor correspondence and proposals.

Reporting:

  • Report progress on goals & responsibilities to the department. Produce analysis of personal solicitation effectiveness.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the fundraising database and other management information and tracking systems used by the Division of Philanthropy to effectively update and manage progress toward personal solicitation goals, including donor visits and contacts.
  • Produce donor prospect reports; track progress and report results.
  • Generate and distribute call reports.
  • Coordinate with information systems staff to produce and update personal solicitation reports as needed.

Business Unit Support:

  • Participate in visits, asks, and stewardship of Annual Giving donors

Other Activities As Needed:

  • Participate as needed in Division of Philanthropy team efforts including solicitation strategy teams for key prospects and internal planning efforts. Ad-hoc projects. Other responsibilities as assigned. Responsible for assisting the entire department, including other business units, in reaching financial goals.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Reports to an Assistant Director of Annual Giving.
  • Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals.

Minimum Job Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required plus 3-5 years of experience in development.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with a variety of constituencies, including donors, volunteers, and DFCI staff.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and development databases.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Excellent problem solving and reasoning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet fundraising goals and deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a collegial manner with the Development & Jimmy Fund team in creating and implementing solicitation strategies.
  • Willingness to travel in the New England area.
