Associate Director, Annual Programs
Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Annual Programs, the Associate Director focuses on project management of the direct marketing program, the faculty and staff campaign, as well as the matching gift and anniversary solicitation programs. The Associate Director is the lead team member for developing and monitoring the segmentation and solicitation plans. This position plays a key role in data analysis, reporting results of the program, and implementing changes based on these findings and data trends.
The mission of Annual Programs is to create a philanthropic culture that will lead to increased charitable support for Georgia State University and its students. The Associate Director would be part of a team of 5 that works toward building a donor base which will structure the pipeline that moves potential prospects into leadership gift levels.
Responsibilities
Direct Marketing Program
- Lead staff of mail program generating a minimum of $300,000 annually.
- Manages and analyzes all aspects of direct mail solicitation efforts for all annual giving constituent groups, including alumni, “friends,” and faculty/staff.
- Designs, plans and implements strategies to increase retention and donor acquisition rates, coordinating strategies with director.
- Primary contact with vendor to execute annual production calendar and communicates necessary deadlines to appropriate parties.
- Proactively creates partnerships across the university to acquire new direct marketing fundraising projects.
Call Center Management
- Secondary management of call center which generates a minimum of $450,000 annually.
- Works with vendor of phone program to monitor strategy, analyze results on a regular basis, makes recommendations to change and enhance strategies based on results.
- Manages reporting and data file clean-up/transfers to vendor for phone solicitation program.
- Manages prospect follow-ups from call center, including hand-offs, donor and alumni concerns and questions, and any other follow-up needed.
Data Segmentation
- Lead staff responsible for developing and monitoring the annual programs data segmentation plan, which serves as the foundation for all department solicitation and stewardship plans.
- Analyzes data for all targeted appeals and complex segmentation to increase retention and acquisition rates.
- Ensures all solicitation and stewardship calendar activities are in line with segmentation plans. Monitors progress and analyzes results on an ongoing basis.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Working closely with the Director, Annual Programs and Director, Donor Information Services, creates standard queries and the corresponding logic to analyze and measure the effectiveness of the various channels of solicitation within Annual Programs.
- Assists the director with compilation and maintenance of statistical data for tracking the success of all programs and projects.
- Utilizes data to project trends and recommend change for programming initiatives both proactively and as needed.
Targeted Solicitation Programs
- Lead staff for faculty/staff giving program. Develops and implements the plan to solicit and steward faculty and staff donors.
- Recruits and manages a faculty/staff giving committee made up of various faculty/staff across the university to enhance the program’s success and increase overall giving.
- Analyzes and reports results on success of program to the Development Division.
- Lead staff for matching gift program. Develops and implements the plan, including targeted marketing materials and solicitations of specific companies, to solicit donors based on corporate matching gift opportunities.
- Finds new and innovate ways to increase revenue and participation, including securing external vendors and internal partners.
- Analyzes and reports results on success of program to the Development Division.
- Partners with Alumni Association related to corporate relationships.
- Strategizes with development leadership and university partners to incorporate analysis and feedback for strategies for both the faculty/staff giving program and the matching gift program.
Management and Collaboration
- Hires and manages annual giving student assistant(s).
- Trains, approves time, and directs the daily work of the student assistants. Monitors quality work, provides feedback for growth.
- Serves as a liaison to 3-4 college/units on behalf of the Annual Programs department.
- Meets and communicates regularly with development officers to discuss specific college/unit strategies, analyze and report results, and add strategic fundraising opportunities as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and two years of experience in solicitation of gifts up to $25,000, or a combination of education and related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference will be given to candidates with campaign and/or annual giving experience.
- Knowledge of the Blackbaud application software Raiser’s Edge.
