Director, Annual Giving
Job Duties
Leadership Annual Giving:
- Oversee a strategy to grow the number of President’s Society Members each year by acquiring, retaining and upgrading donors of $1,000 or more.
- Collaborate with Stewardship Coordinator to develop benefit programs and special engagement opportunities that encourage mid-level gifts ($5,000 or more) and move donors to higher levels of annual giving.
Campus/Affinity Groups:
- Develop strong solicitation, engagement and stewardship programs for key constituencies (parents, faculty, staff, young alumni, students) as well as key affinity groups.
Program/Vendor Management:
- Design and manage an integrated multi-channel marketing strategy of outbound programs (direct mail, phone-a-thon, email) and inbound programs (websites, giving forms) that engage donors through one-to-many marketing channels and ultimately moves them into personal relationship-based development efforts.
- Enhance the annual giving department’s use of digital marketing (email, websites, social media, etc.) and analytics (predictive modeling, social media data mining, etc.) to improve segmentation and messaging and to create a personal and positive experience for donors.
Collaboration:
- Work with campus partners (Athletics, Alumni, academic units) to ensure personal and consistent messaging and positive donor experiences.
- Collaborate with Advancement colleagues (Marketing & Communications, Advancement Services, gift officers, etc.) to ensure that the UM brand and overall marketing and communications strategy is used consistently and effectively.
Portfolio Management/Direct Solicitation:
- Carry a modest portfolio of mid-level ($5,000 or more) donors for direct cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
Staff Management/Supervision:
- Management of staff, students, interns and other types of employees. Management of leave/time reporting, as well as applicable performance appraisals. Create a positive team environment.
- Ensure applicable policies and procedures are followed.
Other duties as assigned.

Positions Supervised
Will supervise staff, as well as student workers, interns, and graduate assistants.
Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
