Job Description:

The Director, Athletics Fundraising, is a development position in Institutional Advancement (IA) at McDaniel College. The primary responsibility in this role is to secure annual unrestricted and designated Athletic funds, leadership annual gifts and major gifts through the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of alumni, parents, and friends. The Director, Athletics Fundraising, is dedicated to maximizing annual gifts to the Green & Gold Club and identifying potential leadership donors through frequent, required travel to conduct personal solicitations and build relationships with individual donors. Director, Athletics Fundraising, reports to the Executive Director, Annual Giving.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a coordinated program of fundraising initiatives that result in increased contributions to the McDaniel Green & Gold Athletics Fund.
  • Develop and implement an action plan with clear and measurable goals that supports implementation of the fundraising initiatives.
  • Generate unrestricted and designated Athletic annual and major gifts towards an annual financial goal through the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of an assigned portfolio of prospects including face-to-face visits, email, and telephone.
  • Manage, cultivate and track a portfolio of up to 100 donors; growing donor engagement, interest and gifts to McDaniel Green & Gold Athletics.
  • Work creatively, thoughtfully, and strategically to ask and secure gifts from an assigned portfolio of Annual Fund and Major Gift donors, with a priority on athletics prospects, to develop a prospect pipeline of leadership annual fund, athletic, and planned giving targets.
  • Create effective, multichannel marketing pieces and messaging for Green and Gold Athletic fundraising, working in collaboration with the Athletic Director and Coaches.
  • Build strong, collegial relationships with the Athletic Director, Coaches and other Athletic Staff that result in mutual trust, open communication, and a coordinated effort between the Institutional Advancement Division and the Athletic Division of the College.
  • Manage and/or support athletic fundraising programs including, but not limited to, the Green & Gold Athletic challenge, Alumni Games, and the Green and Gold Golf Tournament annually raising funds for Athletics and individual athletic teams.
  • Anticipates, organizes and disseminates regular Athletics updates including but not limited to priorities, event information and attendees, milestones and impact statements
  • Works closely with supervisor and collaborates with internal departments including but not limited to Leadership Giving, Planned Giving, Prospect Research, and Alumni Relations to develop comprehensive strategies for assigned prospects.
  • Coordinates donor recognition with the Executive Director of Advancement Engagement to steward Green and Gold donors in an effort to improve rates of renewal and upgrades of annual gifts.
  • Works closely with supervisor and collaborates with internal departments including but not limited to Leadership Giving, Planned Giving, Prospect Research, and Alumni Relations to develop comprehensive strategies for assigned prospects.
  • Participate in regular individual portfolio review and group sessions related to portfolio management and strategic travel.
  • Maintains up-to-date and thorough information in the database on significant prospect contacts regarding solicitations and evaluations including capacity, prospect interests, and demographic changes.
  • Participates in annual and long-range planning for the Fund for McDaniel and Green and Gold fundraising efforts.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Annual Giving.

Information Security Role: Data User

  • Follow the policies and procedures established by the appropriate Data Stewards.
  • Comply with federal and state laws and regulations as well as College policies, procedures, and standards associated with the College computing resources and institutional data used.
  • Use institutional data only as required for the conduct of College business within the scope of employment.
  • Implement safeguards prescribed by appropriate Data Stewards for Limited Access and Restricted Data.
  • Ensure the appropriateness, accuracy, and timeliness of institutional data used for the conduct of College business.
  • Report any unauthorized access, data misuse, or data quality issues to the appropriate Data Steward for remediation.
  • Accept and complete the confidentiality statement yearly if access includes restricted data.
  • Report any suspected data breach to the CIO and the IT Help Desk as soon as possible.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with five years or more of fundraising, sales or similar experience is required.
  • Proven success in working with volunteers recommended.
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends to meet with prospects and support programming and events.
  • Ability to use Microsoft, database tools such as Raiser’s Edge, internet and email
  • Strong commitment to private liberal arts education.
  • Effective writing, statistical analysis, data management (Excel), customer service and marketing skills.
  • Creative, articulate self-starter who possesses strong interpersonal, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in an environment that encourages consensus building, teamwork, collegial decision-making, and accountability for results is essential.
  • Effective time management, planning and organizational skills are critical.
  • Must possess tact, diplomacy, and discretion in confidential matters.

Working Conditions: The overall setting of the job is in an area conducive to a normal office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.

Physical Characteristics:

This position requires sitting for long periods of time, as well as some bending and stooping when working with files. This position does have some limited lifting involved but not more than 10 pounds at a time. Quite a bit of finger/hand dexterity is involved in regard to typing and/or filing. The overall setting of the job is in an area conducive to a normal office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
