Job Description:
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Annual Giving, the Assistant Director Annual Giving, Young Alumni, Student will be responsible for increasing student and alumni involvement in the life of the College and support the College’s long-range programmatic and fundraising goals.The Assistant Director of Annual Giving is charged with increasing and retaining support from McDaniel College alumni and parents through annual gifts to the College, particularly among graduates of the last decade (GOLD). Throughout the academic year, the Assistant Director will also manage McDaniel’s Phone Center and student philanthropy programs, to build a culture of philanthropy with our current students with a focus on a viable senior class gift effort. Focused on the engagement of young alumni as well as the use of technology and data analysis to increase alumni participation, this position reports to the Executive Director of Annual Giving.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Oversee and establish all aspects of young alumni and student giving; set appropriate goals, determine strategies, ensure implementation of strategies, assess effectiveness, and engage in process improvement.
- Identify, cultivate, and personally solicit young alumni in support of the Fund for McDaniel.
- Oversee all fundraising aspects of the first and fifth reunion programs, working to engage, steward, and solicit increased commitment and annual support in conjunction with their respective committees
- Establish and advise the senior class gift committee; recruit and train all student volunteers for that committee, manage the solicitation schedule, plan and coordinate events, and track progress to goals by creating outcome reporting
- Manages all aspects of the Phone Center program, including implementation of calling segments, all Phone Center donor correspondence, management of Phone Center software, and management of Phone Center student workers. Prepare the daily call pool via a web-based system.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and manage 8-15 student managers and callers
- Create caller manuals, develop training materials, write scripts and provide College fact sheets. Create daily and weekly reports of Phone Center productivity.
- Develop and maintain relationships with leaders of student campus organizations
- Travel to meet key GOLD alumni to solicit first time gifts and increased commitments
- Develop engagement strategies that increase connections with the College as well as promote and foster a sense of pride among young alumni and students
- Build strong personal relationships with alumni, students, friends, and the College community; serve as an ambassador for McDaniel and advocate for annual support
- Identify additional points of evaluation, metrics, and analyses necessary for the effective assessment and management of the student philanthropy and young alumni programs
- Serve as lead on implementation of I Love the Hill Day – McDaniel’s one day of giving crowdfunding effort.
- Participate in annual and long-range strategic planning for the Fund For McDaniel
- Utilize emerging and existing technologies and social media to enrich communications with alumni and students
- Create caller manuals, develop training materials, write scripts and provide College fact sheets. Create daily and weekly reports of Phone Center productivity.
- Collaborate with Advancement Services to request lists, maintain the database and provide accurate call lists to contracted vendors .
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Annual Giving.
Information Security Role: Data User
- Follow the policies and procedures established by the appropriate Data Stewards.
- Comply with federal and state laws and regulations as well as College policies, procedures, and standards associated with the College computing resources and institutional data used.
- Use institutional data only as required for the conduct of College business within the scope of employment.
- Implement safeguards prescribed by appropriate Data Stewards for Limited Access and Restricted Data.
- Ensure the appropriateness, accuracy, and timeliness of institutional data used for the conduct of College business.
- Report any unauthorized access, data misuse, or data quality issues to the appropriate Data Steward for remediation.
- Accept and complete the confidentiality statement yearly if access includes restricted data.
- Report any suspected data breach to the CIO and the IT Help Desk as soon as possible.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of fundraising, sales or similar experience. One year of supervisory experience, preferred.
- Proven success in working with volunteers.
- Experience in marketing preferred.
- Strong commitment to private liberal arts education required; undergraduate or graduate experience at McDaniel College preferred.
- Effective writing, statistical analysis, data management (Excel), and customer service skills required. Basic skills in social media and web experience required.
- Creative, articulate self-starter who possesses strong interpersonal, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends to manage call center and support programming and events is required.
- Ability to work in an environment that encourages consensus-building, teamwork, collegial decision-making, and accountability for results is essential.
Working Conditions: The overall setting of the job is in an area conducive to a normal office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
Physical Characteristics:
This position requires sitting for long periods of time, as well as some bending and stooping when working with files. This position does have some limited lifting involved but not more than 10 pounds at a time. Quite a bit of finger/hand dexterity is involved in regard to typing and/or filing. The overall setting of the job is in an area conducive to a normal office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
