Brief Description of Duties:

The Associate Director of Annual Giving reports to the Executive Director of Annual Giving and is a critical position in the day-to-day operations of the Annual Giving program. The Associate Director will manage direct mail, digital solicitations, annual giving stewardship, and the telefund. The ideal candidate will be dependable, goal driven, detail oriented, creative, highly collaborative, and solution seeking. The Associate Director must have demonstrated experience in utilizing data to inform productive direct marketing strategies. The selected candidate will be a proactive self-starter with excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple marketing projects in tandem.

  • Working with the Executive Director to continuously evaluate and grow direct marketing donors and dollars for the Stony Brook Fund, College of Business, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Graduate School, School of Journalism, School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, and School of Professional Development.
  • Developing a deadline-driven calendar of five high-level solicitations focused on growing the acquisition, reactivation and renewal outcomes of President’s Circle-level contributions across all direct marketing channels
  • Successfully managing a six multi-segmented direct mail solicitations, including content sourcing, copy-writing and working with an offsite printer to ensure timely and accurate delivery
  • Querying and analyzing information from the database to identify opportunities to improve direct marketing donor and dollar outcomes
  • Overseeing and ensuring growth in donor and dollar outcomes for a 24- student on-campus telefund program
  • Managing the evaluation, creation, production and delivery of all annual giving e-solicitations with the goal of increasing year-over-year outcomes in donors and dollars
  • Serving as a staff liaison in the content development and management for all online marketing initiatives such as day of giving, crowdfunding, and digital advertising
  • Collaborating with data services to create accurate and timely data queries for all mailings
  • Collaborating with data services and gift processing to ensure appropriate coding of all direct marketing outcomes
  • Collaborating with the advancement communications team and offsite copywriters to ensure that all direct marketing initiatives are high quality, effective and on-brand
  • Working with centralized stewardship team to ensure timely and appropriate stewardship across all annual gift levels
  • Preparing weekly reports to evaluate and improve year-to-date performance across all direct marketing initiatives under management
  • Other duties as assigned

Special Notes:

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation.  Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. Weekend work may be required at times.

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three years of full-time experience related to fundraising or direct marketing (annual giving, mass marketing, project management, data analysis, or donor relations). Proficiency with data management software (Raiser’s Edge, Advance, Salesforce). High level of Excel expertise (VLOOKUP, formulas, pivot tables, etc).

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional years (4+) of fundraising-related experience with progressive responsibilities. Demonstrated experience managing direct mail or mass marketing projects in a complex non-profit organization. Experience working for an annual fund. Experience managing a budget and procuring vendor services. Supervisory experience.
