Associate Director of Annual Giving

Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Office of Annual Giving generates annual financial support for academic programs, student scholarships and special campus initiatives. Funds are raised through telephone, direct mail, online, micro-campaigns and crowdfunding efforts. Annual Giving is responsible for alumni donor participation which is a campus priority.

The Associate Director will report to the Director of Annual Giving, will manage several programs that support the unit’s overall operations and a portfolio of schools that rely on Annual Giving services. Through strategic direct marketing, the Associate Director will plan and manage multi-channel campaigns to increase the participation from all donor constituencies.

Additionally, he/she will analyze data to identify growth opportunities and develop new, creative campaigns to improve results. Also, the Associate Director will assist with goal setting, annual planning, budget allocation and guide stewardship of donors.

He/she will have a comprehensive understanding of UMD’s overall objectives and translate them into actionable strategies for the central annual giving program. Performance will be measured by the number of donors, dollars raised and other metrics, including social media that demonstrates an increased awareness about the importance of giving back to Maryland.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience in fields such as nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, student fundraising, digital marketing, social media and digital media promotions, or similar required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of fundraising or marketing practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, writing, project and time management skills required.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing, communication and fundraising, including the implementation multi-mediums in a fundraising environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects with limited direction.
  • Skill in coordinating projections from the conceptual through the implementation stages.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and as a team leader to build consensus, anticipate problems and difficult situations, and develop strategies to bring the parties involved to a mutually agreed upon solution.
  • Ability to analyze problems, situations or procedures to define objectives and implement programs.
  • Detailed knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation to compose, proofread, and edit business correspondence, reports and other written materials, as assigned.
  • Solid writing experience for web and print preferred.

Preferences:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of and insight into the new media landscape including social media tools and trends, social media monitoring, and analysis preferred.

Additional Information:

  • Physical Demands of the Position: Must have the ability to lift heavy boxes usually packed with materials and weighing at least twenty pounds.
  • Must be able to travel 10% of the time. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
