As a key member of San José State’s Annual Giving team, you have the opportunity to engage alumni, donors, and other members of the community in philanthropic support of the university. Through calls and face-to-face visits, you have the opportunity to learn the interests of potential donors and share the impact of San José State in order to cultivate deeper relationships with these prospects.

What you’ll do:

  • Secure new donors and prospects as well as new and renewed leadership annual gifts through direct solicitation of individuals with the capacity to make gifts of $1,000-$10,000.
  • Be highly mobile; you’re expected to have 200+ meetings per year, primarily with alumni living in the SF Bay Area.
  • Your success in this position will be measured primarily through your determination to secure visits and refer relationships to colleagues.
  • After meeting with prospects, you’ll recommend appropriate next steps for leadership annual giving prospects. This may include personally soliciting a gift, recommending further engagement through other programs, or recommending a major gifts officer foster the relationship.
  • You’ll have close partners in the Advancement Research team as well as the Annual
  • Giving team to identify prospective donors and strategically assess their philanthropic capacity and inclination.
  • Be an active and collaborative team member in Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving and University Advancement.
  • Assist with donor recognition and stewardship, and other Annual Giving and development activities in support of university-wide campaign initiatives.
  • Work a schedule with occasional evening hours and weekends.

What you have:

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a focus on details, and

excellent program and project organization skills in addition to:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of higher education alumni engagement or development or non-profit fundraising experience, or comparable sales experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, qualify, solicit, and steward gifts from individual donors.
  • Demonstrated Skill in making cold calls (opening doors) as well as developing donorcentric cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Strong initiative and self-motivation and ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong listening skills.
