Assistant Director, Annual Fund
Primary Purpose:
The Assistant Director of Annual Fund coordinates and implements effective programs that enhance philanthropic opportunities for the University through annual giving programs, including phonathon, direct mail, electronic solicitations and personal asks. The primary responsibility will be to manage the Shark Line program which solicits alumni annually for philanthropic support.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manages all aspects of the alumni phonathon program, referred to as Shark Line; manages phonathon supervisors and student callers; hires and trains student employees.
- Coordinates the key components of the phonathon program including but not limited to reports, giving outcomes and trends.
- Monitors and analyzes program data to reveal trends, assess performance of the annual fund, and appeal performance analysis; stays current on best practices and incorporates them into the program.
- Identifies and maintains relationships with print and fulfillment companies under the direction of the Associate Director of Annual Fund to promote the phonathon campaign.
- Oversees stewardship of phonathon donors and communications from callers to donors.
- Collaborates with the alumni programs staff to promote alumni giving through the Shark Store, communications and events.
- Assists with the management of activities that emphasize electronic giving and electronic media communications.
- Assists the Associate Director of Annual Fund with the execution of Annual Giving direct mail and electronic appeals.
- Assists with creative methods to solicit prospects and other programs that will engage alumni and friends with the University.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Marginal Job Functions:
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with faculty and staff members throughout NSU.
- Represent the Office of Advancement and Community Relations and NSU at activities as needed.
- Create office systems to support all processes and procedures for project operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings for eight (8) months of the year.
- Excellent oral, written and persuasive communication and presentation skills.
- Understanding of “best practices” of development principles as they pertain to annual giving.
- Exhibits high integrity; detail oriented; ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Highly energetic and has the drive to succeed.
- Ability to work within budgetary guidelines.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and use independent judgment.
- Experience with social media and other forms of electronic media.
- Computer experience including Internet research, MS Word, Excel, and Power Point, Windows and relational database experience.
Required Certifications/Licensures:
- Valid Florida driver’s license and automobile insurance.
- Required Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree
Required Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in annual giving development or not-for-profit fundraising work.
- Experience with and an understanding of “Phonathon” management.
- Experience with and a keen knowledge of direct mail solicitations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working for an institute of higher education.
