Assistant Director, Annual Giving
Job Description
The Assistant Director, Annual Giving at The Fuqua School of Business is a member of the Development and Alumni Relations Annual Fund team, and a frontline fundraiser for the school. The Assistant Director identifies, cultivates, and solicits individual prospects and leadership donors to The Fuqua Annual Fund through individual outreach (virtual and in-person), as well as through programmatic efforts with a special focus on securing multi-year, leadership donor-level commitments of $1K and above. This position reports to the Director, Annual Giving and collaborates with the Development and Alumni Relations department (DAR) and other Fuqua and Duke University departments on overall strategy, initiatives and events.
Responsibilities
- Individual Giving
- Working with the Annul Fund team, utilize internal prospect lists and individual research to identify and prioritize alumni leadership giving prospects.
- Travel approximately 12 times a year to cultivate, solicit and close new and established leadership donors.
- Utilize telephone, videoconference, e-mail, and new media to cultivate, solicit, close, and steward new and established leadership donors.
- Programmatic
- Identify and prioritize leadership giving prospects within the recent graduate population for individual cultivation.
- Develop and execute a fundraising campaign targeting the recent graduate population with a particular emphasis on the one-year and five-year Reunion Class Gift campaigns.
- Other responsibilities as assigned
- Serve as an active member of the Fuqua Development and Alumni Relations and team.
- Collaborate with other Development & Alumni Relations staff to transition donors and volunteers to new gift levels or volunteer activities.
- Attend and participate in Development & Alumni Relations events and activities.
- Interact with the staff of Duke University’s Central Development office and other university school or unit development offices as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant experience required.
- Experience in higher education, annual giving, or alumni relations preferred.
- Knowledge of The Fuqua School of Business and/or Duke University preferred.
- Demonstrated sales or fundraising experience and the ability to articulate the importance of unrestricted support.
- Experience and comfort in interacting with students, alumni, and parents, including senior-level executives and other successful alumni with significant giving capacity.
- Strong, self-starting work ethic in a fast-paced, results-oriented team environment.
- Exceptional ability to think strategically and analytically.
- Refined written and oral communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously, working both independently and as a team member.
- Willingness to travel frequently and work on evenings or weekends as necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and experience handling confidential information.
- Creativity, adaptability, diplomatic skills, and sense of humor.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Windows, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and willingness and ability to master proprietary database tools.
