St. Joseph’s Preparatory is a Catholic, Jesuit, independent four-year college preparatory school located on the northern edge of center city Philadelphia. Position Summary: 

Reporting to the Director of Operations/Campaign Manager, the Assistant Director of the Prep Fund is charged with developing relationships with alumni, parents, faculty, students and friends with a goal of raising funds that support The Prep’s mission. The Assistant Director is also responsible for executing the strategy for maximizing gifts in support of the annual Prep Fund goal. He/She will work with the Director of Operations to develop and execute the plan for all elements of the Prep Fund including direct mail, email solicitations, segmentation of various constituencies and targeted fundraising events such as Day of Giving and Class Challenge and the Faculty & Staff Annual Appeal. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director to create strategies to ensure that The Prep Fund and Leadership giving society goals are achieved including and incorporating strategies for the Villiger Executive Council (VEC), President’s Advisory Council (PAC) and the Young Alumni Leadership Council (YALC). The Assistant Director will manage a portfolio for donor identification, acquisition and donor retention of prospective high-end annual fund donors, including parents and alumni.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Management and execution of the annual Prep Fund Campaign raising upward of $1,600,000 in unrestricted funds each fiscal year through direct marketing and personal face-to-face visits.
  • In partnership with the Director of Development Operations, creates and implements annual strategies to engage donors to reach the annual goal for unrestricted giving. Builds plan utilizing direct mail, social media, events and personal outreach to engage donors.
  • Works closely with the Director and the internal Marketing and Communications team to create themes, messaging, videos and collateral for direct mail and online solicitations.
  • Works with appropriate vendors to produce materials and execute the solicitation strategies surrounding targeted appeals.
  • Identify opportunities to increase fundraising efforts using professional development, industry trends and applications.
  • Monitor and review all Venmo gifts and download activity for processing.
  • Develops marketing segmentation lists for Prep Fund Appeals for recurring and acquisition of new donors.
  • Responsible for identification, acquisition and retention of the President’s Leadership Council (PAC); soliciting gifts of $2,500 and up. Works closely with Major Gift team to identify potential members for leadership council.
  • Collaborates with Development team members to execute the development and implementation of membership strategies for leadership councils including the Villiger Executive Council (VEC), President’s Advisory Council (PAC), and Young Alumni Leadership Council (YALC).
  • Collaborates on the planning and development of agendas and logistics for Leadership society council meetings.
  • Attends Major Gift meetings to discuss strategies for qualifying and engaging prospects/donors.
  • Achieves a personal visit goal of 8-10 per month.
  • Manage a portfolio of up to 150 high-end annual fund prospects.
  • Oversees the planning and implementation of strategies for Day of Giving, Alumni Class Challenge, Senior Class gift, Jesuit Schools Young Alumni Challenge and Faculty & Staff annual appeals.
  • Develop, execute and analyze Prep Fund Progress Reports and Alumni Participation Reports. 
  • Attend and assist as necessary at all alumni/development events.
  • Actively participate as a thought leader in developing and implementing new ideas, technology and efficiencies.
  • Work with colleagues to develop and organize student and alumni centered engagement opportunities including Student Ambassador Program, Donor Thank You calls and Class Philanthropy programs.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving in support of Reunion Fundraising, Networking Opportunities and Young Alumni initiatives.
  • Recruit and maintain relationships with Alumni Volunteers to assist with fundraising and Engagement opportunities.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience required.
  • Two to three years’ experience working in a Development non-profit organization, Sales or Marketing position, or related experience.
  • Detail oriented with excellent proofreading and editing skills.
  • Highly organized team player with strong focus on accuracy and good communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision with great accuracy and efficiency
  • Self-starter willing to take direction when needed and execute tasks
  • Strong interpersonal written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, high level of organizational skills and willingness to take initiative.
  • Positive, winning attitude. Energetic, driven, and goal-oriented.
  • Highly ethical and able to maintain confidential information and a good sense of diplomacy.
  • Strong commitment to being a member of a high functioning team, supporting the goals of the development department, and a willingness to support initiatives outside scope of job description.
  • Demonstrated technology skills with a preference for direct experience with Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising or CRM software
  • Fluent in Microsoft Word and Excel and Google Products
  • Willing to approach role and tasks with a commitment to the mission and values of the School and the teachings of the Catholic Church

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: 

  • Works in a potentially stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends or off hours to support events and initiatives of department.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled office environment.
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
