The Associate Director works with unique fundraising programs in Annual Giving which raise more than $3.5M+ annually. Programs within this portfolio’s management include Giving Pages, Dana-Farber faculty and staff giving programs, workplace giving programs, naming opportunity displays, President’s Circle giving society stewardship, Favors program, and assisting with VIP tribute and memorial scenarios and Trustee Annual Fund work. Supervises one Assistant Director and shares supervision of one Officer and one Assistant and has oversight of the programs within these portfolios. Develops the appeal, cultivation, stewardship, and prospect management strategies for these programs’ donors with the goal of building the programs, revenue, and donor pipelines. Additionally, the Associate Director works with a prospect pool of donors that are involved with various special programs. Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals.

The onboarding of this role will include a comprehensive training process which includes completion of online modules, shadowing colleagues, as well as hands-on learning experiences throughout the first calendar year in the role.

Dana-Farber is currently undertaking an ambitious fundraising effort to change the future of cancer research and care: The Dana-Farber Campaign. This multibillion-dollar campaign is the largest in the Institute’s history and one of the largest ever in the U.S. focused solely on cancer. Philanthropy raised through The Dana-Farber Campaign is focused on accelerating the Institute’s strategic priorities by supporting revolutionary science, extraordinary care, exceptional expertise, and essential opportunities—helping us prevent, treat, and Defy Cancer.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise Special Constituency Programs

• Oversight of Workplace Giving Programs, raising $1.3M annually, and Annual Giving naming displays, raising $450K+ annually (including the Gene Display, Ripple Effect Displays, and Imagine Display), and Favors.
• Determine annual strategy, set solicitation timelines, conceptualize appeal and advertising materials, assist in writing copy, and manage appeals by mail, email/web, telephone, and personal solicitation in order to achieve fundraising goals. Collaborate with other teammates on Special Programs regarding generated opportunities.
• Supervise President’s Circle giving society stewardship, including one annual event, to thank donors.
• Oversee inquiries in shared mailboxes for all programs, as well as oversee revenue, tracking, and reporting in ClearView database
• Coordinate with designer/sign contractors on bi-yearly naming opportunity installations.
• Collaborate with other units across the Division with marketing, gift and display tracking and reporting.
• Oversee past and miscellaneous Annual Giving naming opportunities including Zebrafish Display, Jimmy’s Junction, 406 Club, Boston Red Sox Jimmy Fund Auditorium Chairs, and Yawkey Center Healing Garden.

Manage Special Constituency Programs

• Serve as Annual Giving lead for Giving Pages program, Dana-Farber’s online, non-event fundraising platform raising $1.6M+ annually.
• Set strategy and lead all aspects of the Dana-Farber faculty and staff giving programs by developing marketing strategy and giving incentives and ensuring accurate reporting.
• Assist the Sr. Director with managing VIP memorial and tribute situations that arise within the Division and provide Trustee Annual Fund programmatic support as needed.

Prospect Management

• Participate in visits, asks, and stewardship, and cultivation of special programs donors including high-level Giving Page creators and other donors who have special handling or tribute situations.
• Conduct donor visits and stewardship with 2-3 prospects per month (20+ donor visits per year).
• Track, review team progress and ensure special programs staff meet all prospect management goals.

Supervise Staff

• Manage one Sr. Assistant Director, Annual Giving, Special Fundraising Programs and Stewardship.
• Together with Sr. Assistant Director, shared management of one Officer, Special Fundraising Programs and Stewardship, Annual Giving; and co-manage one Assistant, Special Fundraising Programs and Stewardship.

Reporting

• Report progress on goals & responsibilities to the department; produce analysis of personal solicitation effectiveness and program results.
• Coordinate with Information Systems staff for reporting and prospect tracking.

Other Activities as Needed

• Participate as needed in Division of Philanthropy team efforts including solicitation strategy teams for key prospects and internal planning efforts. Ad-hoc projects. Other responsibilities as assigned. Responsible for assisting the entire department with reaching financial goals.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Reports to the Senior Director, Special Fundraising Programs and Stewardship, Annual Giving. Direct supervision of one Sr. Assistant Director and shared management of one Officer and one Assistant.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required plus 6-8 years of experience in development, including a minimum of 3 years of Annual Giving experience. Supervisory experience.
