Associate Director for Annual Giving and Marketing Segmentation
The University of Illinois Foundation (UIF), a separate 501(c)(3) organization that raises and administers private gift support for the University of Illinois (UI) and its three campuses, seeks an experienced Associate Director for Annual Giving and Marketing Segmentation. The successful candidate will oversee the segmentation for all annual giving and marketing campaigns across the university and the university’s mass email service and online giving portals for advancement.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides overall management and leadership for segmentation of campaigns, digital communications, and the marketing plan/schedule, related technical processes and software, and performance measurement, goal setting, budget, and program/technology development.
- Investigates, develops, launches, and maintains technology to manage advancement programs and segmentation within those programs to allow for highly variable and personalized content in mail, phone, email, and text communications, working to optimize the process efficiency and cost effectiveness of the segmentation operation.
- Develops and oversees a comprehensive email service program, including related technical functionality and interface with the advancement database, adherence to best practice strategies and federal guidelines in digital communications, and management of training for new and sophisticated users.
- Assists in identifying and producing metrics to evaluate digital communications, segmentation performance, and annual giving program productivity.
- Presents to various groups across the three campuses in using and interpreting annual giving operational and analytical reports.
- Assists in large-scale information technology implementation projects and systematic processes to maximize efficiency and cost effectiveness of mass marketing and annual giving programs and the broader advancement program.
- Supervises the management of the master calendar/flight plan which schedules and coordinates all solicitation and non-solicitation marketing activity for the university to eliminate unnecessary multiple or inappropriate solicitations or prospective donors, increase process efficiency and cost effectiveness, and maximize results.
- Consults with units across the university on segmentation strategies to create flexible and user-friendly segmentation options.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with Master’s preferred.
- A minimum of three years management/supervisory experience, preferably at a large public research university which includes two years of management of large-scale data/programming operations.
- Excellent motivational, communicative, and supervisor skills.
- Ability to exercise courtesy, tact and flexibility.
- Enthusiastic leadership, interpersonal skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to set priorities and meet short deadlines.
- Experience in fundraising, marketing, or customer service industries is preferred.
- Knowledge of SQL or SAS programming languages is preferred; experience with business intelligence tools (Cognos or Microsoft SSRS/SSIS), RuffaloCODY’s CAMPUSCALL software, and Blackbaud’s CRM software is beneficial.
