Position Overview:

The Deputy Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of MAZON’s annual giving program, with a focus on maximizing individual donor acquisition, retention, and growth. The role requires a deep understanding of direct mail and digital fundraising strategies, donor segmentation, and development operations. The Deputy Director of Annual Giving oversees grassroots and mid-range donor strategies, and is the department’s liaison to the Operations team with respect to development operations and technology. The Deputy Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the organization’s donor stewardship systems and annual giving calendar and cadence. The position works collaboratively with the Vice President of Community Engagement, the development department, and other departments to achieve MAZON’s fundraising goals, and supervises the department’s Development Associate.

This is a hybrid position based in MAZON’s Los Angeles office but we will consider candidates in other locations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the Vice President of Community Engagement, drafts, manages, and implements MAZON’s annual giving agenda, including diverse fundraising strategies, oversight, and implementation of those strategies
  • Tracks fundraising trends, both internally and externally, to inform and develop revenue projections and fundraising strategy
  • Maintains detailed understanding of MAZON’s programmatic work to communicate to interested stakeholders
  • Supports the VP of Community Engagement in planning and executing MAZON’s diverse fundraising portfolio, collaborating with the Development Team on the timing, themes and targets for these strategies
  • Oversees MAZON’s annual giving program, including direct mail, digital campaigns (both those that align with direct mail and discrete digital campaigns such as Giving Tuesday and Jewish Justice Giving Day), and is accountable for the development and execution of the fundraising calendar, communications cadence, and donor segmentation strategies to maximize appeal returns.
  • Works with the Vice President of Community Engagement and the development team to develop and implement MAZON’s grassroots (donors giving $1,000 and below annually), recurring (donors giving cumulatively $1,000 and below annually), and mid-range (donors giving $1,000-$9,999) giving strategies, including acquisition, cultivation, stewardship, and overall donor relations.  Implements, maintains, and updates a comprehensive donor stewardship system for all annual giving donors, including both automated and personalized touchpoints, to maximize donor retention and lifetime value.
  • Serves as the Development department’s primary liaison with the Operations team, working with our technology leads to ensure the department’s database management needs, gift processing systems, and development technology needs are met.
  • Manages vendor relationships related to donation processing systems and serves as the point of escalation for system issues.
  • Serves as the development department’s main liaison with the communications team for scheduling and calendaring communications.
  • Supervises and mentors the Development Associate
  • Manages additional staff and volunteers as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Extended hours as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 4-6 of professional fundraising and development operations experience, with a focus on annual giving, direct response, and digital strategies.
  • Proven track record of successfully designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive annual giving campaigns.
  • Strong project management and strategic planning skills, with the ability to manage complex schedules and simultaneous priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to MAZON’s mission and the Jewish social justice space or a strong understanding of and commitment to Jewish values and social justice principles.
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate MAZON’s mission and impact persuasively.
  • Proficiency in Salesforce CRM is required. Familiarity with development software and platforms (Salesforce, Fundraise Up, Feathr, Dataro) is highly desirable.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Strong understanding of fundraising best practices and ethics.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data, track progress, and make data-informed decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed fundraising goals.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently with a strong sense of ownership

Compensation:

MAZON offers a compensation package with a competitive salary range of $100,000 to $104,000 annually.
