The Assistant Director of Annual Giving will manage an exciting set of annual giving programs aimed at inspiring philanthropic support for Rollins College and the Rollins Annual Fund. This person will be responsible for planning, creation, execution, and analysis of yearly, multi-channel fundraising efforts with emphasis on direct response communications to raise unrestricted funds for the College of Liberal Arts, the Crummer Graduate School of Business, and the Hamilton Holt School, as well as for Financial Aid, Athletics, and the Rollins Museum of Art.

The Assistant Director will be a core team member for planning and executing annual Giving Day effort, as well as manage one-off mini fundraising campaigns as they arise. Communications will be geared toward solicitation and stewardship to acquire, reactivate, and retain annual donors to the Rollins Annual Fund. Direct response strategies may include direct mail, email, web, video, texting, and social media, and target different audiences within the greater Rollins community including alumni, parents, students, friends, and faculty/staff. The Assistant Director of Annual Giving is a member of the staff in the Division of Institutional Advancement and reports to the Senior Director of Annual Giving and Advancement Marketing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and manage series of direct response campaigns to increase giving to the Rollins Annual Fund by educating, engaging, and soliciting constituents throughout the fiscal year.
  • Develop creative and effective copy for appeal letters, emails, collateral, and website fundraising copy to drive annual giving growth and philanthropic support. Manage content creation and messaging, communication deployment strategy, segmentation, vendor management, and all phases of the editing process.
  • Work with the Senior Director to develop and implement strategies to increase leadership giving to the Rollins Annual Fund ($2,500+) in partnership with Major, Parent, and Planned Giving teams. Includes developing and executing integrated marketing strategies such as direct response mail and email, collateral, web, etc.
  • Act as a liaison to select campus partners that may include Crummer Graduate School of Business, the Hamilton Holt School, Athletics, and the Rollins Museum of Art to establish goals and develop solicitations to increase annual fund support from targeted constituencies.
  • Serve on core team for planning and execution of annual Giving Day. Develop goals, strategy, schedule, and marketing materials for select communications and program components; coordinate with campus partners, IA team, and cross-functional Giving Day team.
  • Manage data strategy for series of direct marketing efforts that employ annual giving best practices and improve donor participation, engagement, and retention; define criteria to pull data, and manage segmentation and preparation to ensure accuracy and integrity of communications.
  • Implement annual giving operations and deploy direct response systems/technologies and business processes including data, segmentation, tracking, analysis, online giving forms, appeal codes, and vanity URLs. Draft and maintain documentation for business processes and policies, as applicable.
  • Research and ensure best practices are developed and deployed while also testing new strategies. Establish, track, and analyze results and outcomes of all direct response efforts to measure success and adjust to maximize return on investment of future campaigns.
  • Support Alumni Weekend and other alumni or development programs.

Minimum Qualifications & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 2-4 years experience in direct marketing, or fundraising and development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Possess persuasive writing and editing skills with an attention to detail; thorough knowledge of business English, spelling, and grammar.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creative energy, and ability to manage complex programs or communications. Flexible, self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable working in ambiguous and ever changing, fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking capabilities with strong planning, project management and organizational skills; keen attention to detail; ability to set and balance multiple priorities and manage time effectively in a deadline-driven environment. Be an active problem solver.
  • Experience employing technology, digital marketing tools, data management and analytics to optimize fundraising efforts. Familiarity with relevant and contemporary tools/technologies for email marketing, content management, social media, video, online giving, texting, etc.
  • An aptitude for numbers, data, and analysis is essential. Strong Excel skills necessary for data segmentation and analysis, and to manage and fully utilize marketing tools/technologies.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy are crucial.
  • Creative and resourceful thinker with strong skills in collaboration and partnership-building.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player while handling multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle confidential information, maintain and update files with high degree of accuracy, and sensitivity to the importance of alumni and donor relations.
  • Computer fluency including Microsoft Office Suite, ability to learn and utilize CRM database, reporting tools, and other technology/systems.
  • Possess a demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Annual Giving and/or higher education or non-profit experience desirable.

Work Environment:

  • Campus-based, front-facing customer service position, working in an office environment.
  • Work requires visual strain and use of computer.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as appropriate for Advancement events throughout the year including Alumni/Advancement events, Alumni Weekend, and Family Weekend.
