Associate Director/Director; Development Services
This position serves as the principal manager and supervisor responsible for database administration and management in the Advancement division. Other responsibilities include planning, organizing, leading, and coordinating database administrative activities in furtherance and support of the UNA Foundation’s service mission to the University community.
This position will be titled per the qualifications of the selected candidate and salary will be commensurate with education and experience, relevant to the title offered.
Essential Job Duties:
- Provide leadership, strategic direction, and supervision of employees;
- Serve as primary development services contact/director to the Foundation board of directors, a 501c3 organization, the University community, and external constituents;
- Serve as an executive team leader for the division, overseeing and managing all development services;
- Manage and update Foundation policies and procedures for all database activities;
- Practice best Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Development Services guidelines, as well as general Foundation policies, procedures, laws, and regulations;
- Manage all aspects of the alumni database system (Blackbaud) and financial program (Raiser’s Edge);
- Oversee the preparation of Foundation financial reports and assist Financial Services in the completion of the annual financial statement audit;
- Prepare reports to monitor levels of pledges, revenues, expenditures, receivables, payables, and cash investment balances as well as reports to measure development officer performance including actions, solicitations, and dollars raised and provides regular reports to supervisor;
- Work collaboratively with Financial Services on the oversight of short-term cash, gifts of stock, gift, and other revenue processing, expenditure processing, financial reporting, regulatory filings, internal auditing, and risk management;
- Work collaboratively with Financial Services on internal controls via supervision of database entry of prospects, gifts, the daily gift-entry log, and staff who handle donations and other sensitive financial data;
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Expert knowledge of Blackbaud and Raiser’s Edge;
- Knowledge of generally accepted Customer Relationship Management (CRM) principles, methods, practices, and terminology;
- Knowledge of college/university philanthropic database policies, procedures, practices, and operations including those established by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and CASE;
- Ability to work with all constituencies, including administration, faculty, staff, donors, alumni, and students;
- Expert understanding of customer service principles, methods, practices and terminology;
- Word processing/computer skills and research skills;
- Expert understanding of the purpose and function of a specialized fundraising database;
- Ability to cultivate and maintain personal relationships;
- Knowledge of the sensitive nature of donor records and the necessity of maintaining confidential protocol;
- Experience in not-for-profit database management;
- Ability to work independently to achieve specific results within a prescribed time frame;
- Sensitive and responsive to deadlines, priorities, and the need for flexibility.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required;
- Minimum of five full-time years of work experience in Advancement is required;
- Experience in supervision of employees is required;
- Experience in higher education and foundation development is preferred;
- Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge experience is required.

- Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge Fundamentals Certification is preferred.
